I am planning to take my 5 year old son to his first game in Neyland for the Vandy game. I want to take him to the Vol Walk because I think he will like seeing the players. Typically when I have been to games, I've just hung out at the tailgate until kickoff, and haven't gone to the Vol Walk. Thus I am not familiar with the best spots along the route to soak in the atmosphere.

Any recommendations on the best places to stand, what time to get there, etc? I appreciate any input.

Go Vols.

Near circle park, near Torchbearer was always my favorite

For years the answer would be by the TorchBearer. For some reason now, the band does precede the players walking to the game like the band did for decades by the TorchBearer. Does anyone know why the band stopped playing in front of the players?

Where does the band play during vol walk?

Down Peyton Manning Pass about halfway between the Torch Bearer and the Stadium (right behind pressbox). This is where there will be biggest crowd at the end of the parking lot across from the stadium. There is a small building with a wide set of steps. About 15 min before the players come down the hill, the band will show up and stand on the steps and play.

I would recommend explaining to him the band could be a little loud. I don't think it'll be a problem but I have 3 young grandchildren and they are very sensitive to loud noises. Of course we adults love the blare of the band but to them it COULD be a little disconcerting. Either way hope y'all enjoy the Vol Walk......

Just before the Torch Bearer. That’s where the players step off the bus. Little section under some trees with benches too.

Watch out for this dude in the black shirt though.
We call him Supervisor.
Cross the line and he will yell at you and make you cry. šŸ˜‚
ā€œI don’t EVEN think soā€

Yes, that guy is an a-hole. After one game he immediately pushed me in the chest without even saying one word first that I was somewhere that he didn’t want me to be.

Yep that’s kinda what happened to us too. We walked right by to staff only guys just standing there, half way to the Torch bearer, trying to find a good spot for the walk and then He grabbed us by the arm and turned us around and said ā€œI Don’t EVEN think soā€. Felt like I just reprimanded by the principle of something. But we ended up in a great spot to talk to Al Wilson and take pics of the players as they got off the bus for the walk. So we thanked Supervisor for the ā€œassistā€ šŸ˜‚

Supervisor was on Kiffin’s arm when he left Shields-Watkins Field last month.

Guys this is all great information. I appreciate it. Just bought tickets for the Basketball game the day before so David (my son) will get to go to his first Vol Basketball game Friday and his first Football game the next day on Saturday. Excited to introduce him to Vol Sports.

Anywhere you see the line forming just fall in I like as close to the stadium entrance where they go in pretty cool. I remember giving a thumbs up to Fulmer he respond like manner it seems like I’m in 98. Serious faces going in when everyone is after you.
