Once again someone misinterprets. I never said we should switch from Adidas to Nike, in fact I said that I wished Adidas would work with us like Nike does with it's higher echelon schools and do a cutting edge uniform for one game or so a year.

that's not on the sponsor, it's on UT

What it seems most of you don't understand is that our jerseys look the way they do because that's the way UT wants them. adidas is more than capable of designing something more "modern" and the supplier, Ripon, is more than capable of manufacturing them, as they do with NFL jerseys.

On more than one recent occasion (including last season), adidas has come to UT with a whole portfolio of "updated" uniform designs to choose from, and time after time we have gone with the traditional orange and white. There was a black design that adidas wanted UT to wear last season that the AD put the kabosh on, and black would have stayed in the closet if Lane Kiffin hadn't violated several direct orders from his bosses.

Another fact that many of you are overlooking in reference to Alabama is something that has been mentioned extensively in the Alabama media. They didn't seek out Nike to produce these Pro Combat jerseys. In their new contract that went into effect this season, they are contractually obligated to participate in the PC promotion at least once every three years.

I guess some people like to wear ugly clothes?

I do not think we should switch to nike. Adidas should make the uniform if we did something like this.

and Im just saying, him comparing you fashion police types to 12 year old girls is spot on.

Pretty funny too.

Now, I'll let yall get back to the argument. Clothes are serious bidness.

I wholeheartedly agree. We'd be one of the many big fish in the pond.

We are one of Adidas' main schools and I think it would be really cool for us to come up with an innovative, lightweight uniform design that we wear every once and a while like the Pro Combats and then pitch it to recruits.

Adidas has their form of the pro combat uniform called the Scorch. Rumor on TOS said that Adidas approached UT about doing something special for the Oregon game bc their Nike's baby and Hamilton shot them down bc he took so much heat from the boosters over the black uniforms last year.

You cant tell me they dont use the black uniforms in recruting some. I was in the Neyland/Thompson football complex in Janurary and they had a whole section of the history of UT dedicated to the black uniforms and the stroy behind them from last year. Its used believe it or not.

I'm sorry, someone telling me I'm a fashion police type when they've never even met me and all I'm discussing is the importance of aesthetic things to recruits might be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Guys, Nike does not offer UT anywhere near what Adidas does. It is 1,000% the right decision for our Athletic Department to stay with Adidas.
"Wishing" for something OR making the best decision for the entire University.....HUUUUM?

Nike still has a hand in making UT fan apparel & it is far & away better than what adidas offers. If Nike were our official supplier how could they not offer us more. From what few dollars the university would lose from the actual agreement they would more than make up for in everything else sold with a swoosh on it.

What kills me is that UT administration is so anti change, like the black jerseys for example, but they dont mind whoring them out all over town trying to make a buck off them. They even made black hoops jerseys during the SEC Tourney last year that we never wore just to make a dollar.

Im not all for wholesale change. We have a classic look that as others have said that Tennessee is known for around the country. I am for a change for a game every year or two to draw attention to the university and to fire the players up. Black jerseys, throwbacks, pro combats, whatever just something.

I would love a new permanent jersey design, but this would be very cool also. There's nothing wrong with doing something different every once in a while.

Way to add to the discussion. Just because someone is talking about uniforms that aren't "tradishun!" doesn't mean the discussion isn't valid.

Do you have anything to add or are you just attempting to make witty quips and failing?

How is this....your know nothing about how an Athletic Department works.....better?
I care not to "educate" you.

Pure Ignorance.....anyone can BUY the right to make fan apperal, all you need to do is call Bill Battle and he will walk you through the process of which you abviously know NOTHING about.

and I personally won't buy it. Adidas supports my school so I support them.

I guess we just don't have the minds on campus to figure that out. Too lazy to search but I'm pretty sure the highest contracts for Nike aren't up to what Adidas offers their top schools. And we are not considered a top tier school to Nike

Also, the word "extremely" I used in haste and admitted it before. But it is important and you're fooling yourself to think kids want to come here simply because we won a championship in the 90s. They want the total package. (Stadium, Wins, Tradition, Facilities, Unis/Gear)

Second, yes it is a great pitch in recruiting and every little bit on the recruiting trail helps. You're making this a black and white issue saying "no one is going to leave UT over it." I never even said anything remotely close to that. But a pitch to recruits about a big game with cool looking uniforms is a legitimate one that they would pay attention to.

I gave you that answer a few posts back. I guess your trip through Houndogs has you totally confused.
Adidas makes EXACTLY the uniform that UT asks for.....do I need to say that more slowly?

UT needs Nike badly, those va tech uni's were amazing, bring on a flat black helmet with that orange T on it and black jerseys wow that would be great. im hoping that sometime in the next decade we ink a deal with Nike because they are head and shoulders above all the competition and if it doesnt happen its just because of old UT alumni not wanting to move on with the times like everyone else is

Alimni have nothing to do with it.
Nike does not consider UT an upper teir team and will not supply ALL our teams with unis and shoes like Adidas does.
Nike will not pay UT the MILLIONS of UP FRONT dollars that Adidas does. Liscensed aperal dollars are just a bonus.

Do you guys want your ticket prices to go up just so that UT can BUY our unis from Nike?

did you guys see how some UT players were trashing adidas because they thought the VT and Boise st. uniforms look really good. they said that Nike had it going on.

I thought it was interesting to hear the players bash adidas.

Don't get me wrong I love the ALL MIGHTY ORANGE of the power T, but can we at least switch up a little bit kindof bland. we do get a lot of money from adidas but we could use some imagination
