I like flashy uniforms. There's a lot more to tradition than what jersey your wearing, but i like the edgy designs. It's more pleasing to my personal eye :)

I think the whole different jerseys are crazy...i think it looked great on halloween last year when they went all black but it only looked great b/c they don't do it every week of the season. I say we stay with the "powder" orange and white. VT's "combats" didn't help them win on monday

I sorta like the practice jerseys that have the white piping down the players sides with the orange jerseys and opposite color scheme for the white jerseys. It's slightly different and a little more exciting looking but still keeps with the UT tradition and doesn't take it too far. What do u guys think?

I've worn both Nike and Adidas in the past. I feel as if the Nike gear was better. Adidas gear felt heavy and thick. Some of you will say that's quality but it also makes you feel slower. Adidas came out with the new cleats and the players are glad they did. If all you old heads keep saying " oh it doesn't matter what you wear" you're wrong. Guys look at uniforms and Nike reigns supreme. When players look and feel good they play good. Check out all the BCS champions they've all worn Nike except for us. The best teams in the country with the best recruiting classes wear Nike.

What it seems most of you don't understand is that our jerseys look the way they do because that's the way UT wants them. adidas is more than capable of designing something more "modern" and the supplier, Ripon, is more than capable of manufacturing them, as they do with NFL jerseys.

On more than one recent occasion (including last season), adidas has come to UT with a whole portfolio of "updated" uniform designs to choose from, and time after time we have gone with the traditional orange and white. There was a black design that adidas wanted UT to wear last season that the AD put the kabosh on, and black would have stayed in the closet if Lane Kiffin hadn't violated several direct orders from his bosses.

Another fact that many of you are overlooking in reference to Alabama is something that has been mentioned extensively in the Alabama media. They didn't seek out Nike to produce these Pro Combat jerseys. In their new contract that went into effect this season, they are contractually obligated to participate in the PC promotion at least once every three years.

Nobody is stupid enough to think that uniforms make a team play better. Those of u that seem to use that as ur only point don't get it. It's not like we have the same unis today we used in 1975. There have been subtle changes & that's all anybody is asking for. I personally don't like UA but i like nike & Nike is better in every way. The black jersey was pretty cool last year no matter what anybody says. The throwback we did a few years back was an old color scheme with a modern design. If we are gonna stick with adidas then they could do something. They seem to have put some effort in fan gear & those ugly ass polos that every other person wore Saturday but I'm not asking for that much. Do they only make 1 color receiver glove?

alabama is nike and they refuse to let Nike change ANYTHING on their unis. I think that is the way it should be at TN as well. classic programs (USC, ALA, MICH, NEB, etc. don't need to change thier unis for attention)

:good!:
I agree. I'm ok with a change for a game every few years or so (like S Carolina last year), but I don't want a season-long or permanent change. Besides, while those uniforms were unique, I thought they were also ugly.

Are you aware of what Bama's combat jerseys even look like? They are far from what I would call "flashy". :birgits_giggle:

Winning pulls in more talent than jerseys. Period.

Point me in the direction where I said Bama's Pro Combats are flashy. I'll wait.... I believe I even agreed with a guy who said a simple change would be cool and I agreed and used Bama's as an example.

I also said that recruits take notice of the Pro Combats even if they are subtle like Bama's and it wouldn't kill UT to have some uniform design changes to wear every once in a while that looked cool to recruits.

Also, for the fifth or sixth time I will say this since you are one of the many on this thread who misunderstood my point. Of course winning pulls in talent, anyone who says it doesn't is stupid and I never said having cool jerseys is more important than winning to pull more talent.

However, it is an extremely important part of recruiting these days and to argue otherwise is simply foolish...

the word 'extremely' is pushing it. It could be a factor to some kids but it doesn't become extremely important until all of them start mentioning it

"They" make what the AD/football program asks for. You guys are placing the "blame", for lack of a better term in your eyes, in the wrong place.

Fair point but I still think it's more important than most people realize.

maybe you can point me to the quotes from football recruits saying their top-5 schools all wear Nike and that's why they're considering them. I don't doubt they look at the sponsor but it's most likely not the deciding factor

Never said it was, just said it was important and recruits definitely consider it. Also, for evidence that it matters, just look at the tweets from some of our young guys last night.

That echoes the sentiment of a lot of the high school kids these days.

Take a look at the top 10 teams according to the AP poll.

1.) Bama
2.) Ohio State
3.) Boise St.
4.) TCU
5.) Texas
6.) Nebraska (Adidas)
7.) Oregon
8.) Florida
9.) Iowa
10.) Oklahoma

I just believe that there is a correlation there to go along with winning that helps these teams recruit.

Don't come in the thread and discuss uniforms if you have a problem with it.

It's been merged to a single thread and there is uniform discussion in it.

What's the big deal?

Because it is a rediculios arguement that will never end. Orange & white and winning thats all you need. The rest will take care of itself. I will agree this will be the last time I open this thread. "Ding Fries are done". Enjoy....:whistling:Go Vols.

1) you said it was "extremely important" to recruiting. If it's not a reason for a kid to pick a school then how important is it really?

2) Did our young guys just figure out their equipment is made by Adidas? Are they leaving UT because of it? No, they just like the look but it wouldn't change their school choice so it's not a big deal.

3) Do you realize what Adidas does/give to UT athletics? Search out some of deerpark12's posts in here and see the difference in how UT would be treated by each.

Guys, Nike does not offer UT anywhere near what Adidas does. It is 1,000% the right decision for our Athletic Department to stay with Adidas.
"Wishing" for something OR making the best decision for the entire University.....HUUUUM?

Some of these guys sound like a 12 year old girl shopping at RU21.

Once again someone misinterprets. I never said we should switch from Adidas to Nike, in fact I said that I wished Adidas would work with us like Nike does with it's higher echelon schools and do a cutting edge uniform for one game or so a year.

Also, the word "extremely" I used in haste and admitted it before. But it is important and you're fooling yourself to think kids want to come here simply because we won a championship in the 90s. They want the total package. (Stadium, Wins, Tradition, Facilities, Unis/Gear)

Second, yes it is a great pitch in recruiting and every little bit on the recruiting trail helps. You're making this a black and white issue saying "no one is going to leave UT over it." I never even said anything remotely close to that. But a pitch to recruits about a big game with cool looking uniforms is a legitimate one that they would pay attention to.

Way to add to the discussion. Just because someone is talking about uniforms that aren't "tradishun!" doesn't mean the discussion isn't valid.

Do you have anything to add or are you just attempting to make witty quips and failing?
