Maybe next year we should have a #8 sticker on the back of our helmets like the Titans to remember a well-known QB...

geez people... is wearing black and orange for halloween really that earth shattering of an event where it would destroy all UT traditions?
1. its Halloween!
2. it would be a 1 time thing
3. it would most definitely help with recruiting. it would make the environment ridiculous and younger people love new and exciting things.

exactly. It's not rocket science.

You left out the jack o lanterns.. :haha_oh:

Let's see...teams like Alabama, USC, Penn St, Ohio St......they all seem be going strong despite not changing their uniforms much if any in the past 50 years.

I'd rather be in that group, than the group that includes Miami, Oregon, Maryland, etc. that changes their look every couple of years and in the process sometime has some ridiculous looking uniforms and falls into the current trend of stripes everywhere.

It's same as the NFL...you have your Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Steelers, Cowboys, teams that don't give in to changing their look to fit some style or "drum up excitement". The Vikings' look is awful compared to the throwbacks they wore a few weeks ago. The Bills' look is awful.

For what it is worth................. I was at Chattanooga in the mall in a sporting goods store (there is like 40 of them) I was just talking to the mgr and he said we was wearing black for the South Carolina game.............I dont know but he said his adidas guys told him it was a for sure thing...................He said that he would not of bought any if he didn't think we was going to wear them...........

For what it is worth........that dude was just trying to get you to buy a black jersey. He didn't know jack.

it's a lost cause arguing the proposal of a got-dang black jersey for a game on Halloween, of all days.

these 'uber-traditionals' are the same ones that get pissed off when someone brings a shaker into their section and sings rocky top and adds the "woo" in there.

most of us aren't even proposing a black out. Just some black into the jerseys (and, no, not the names on the back) since Halloween IS ORANGE AND BLACK.

who was it that proposed UT wear all orange and USCjr wear all black several pages ago? I like that.

Heaven-forbid us for wanting to actually have an exciting night game at Neyland this year.

That was me.

If you need teams to do something different with their uniforms to get excited about a night game at Neyland, then you need your damn head examined.

Those are for academic departments and their graphical printing. The Athletics Department has a different style sheet that does not include black.

That's at least the 10th time somebody has posted that link in this thread.

I'm sorry. I didn't read through the entire thread. :wavey:

yeah, the last couple years were pretty damn exciting, weren't they...:snoring: who said it was a necessity?

Sorry to jump on you like that. That's the problem with a 300+ page thread, we re-hash the same stuff about every ten pages.

Yep, they were. I've never been in Neyland Stadium when I wasn't bouncing off the walls with excitement. That's because I love it. And I love sitting in my tiny cramped seat in the endzone more than any other place in the world. I love gameday, the band, the tradition, all of it.

I don't need some stupid gimmick to get me fired up for an SEC opponent ranked in the Top 25.

You don't and a lot of us don't either, but if that is what it takes for everyone in that place actually get up and cheer why not?..Be a lot better than just the die hards cheering.

You think black jerseys is going to make everybody jump up and cheer more than usual?

The younger generation wants something new and different. The older, wants tradition. Either way they are still the Vols.

i fail to see how wearing something a little funky for a couple games here and there just jumps up and down on tradition. does it...really? an occasional breath of fresh air can really liven things up and may help bring along some youngster who needs that little bump to end up being all about ut tradition twenty yrs from now. imo.

I think it would possibly make the start of it a lot crazier, if they did.

This little thing called "winning" will get people more excited, not some stupid gimmick. Gimmicks like black jerseys create excitement that is extremely short lived. Ask other teams.....FSU, Georgia, Louisville, Maryland...it all created very short term excitement that everyone got over pretty quickly.

It's not so much about being traditional for me, it's about being original. It's already an old gimmick.

Black uniforms do not make the game exciting, good play does.
