Vol uniform/helmet design discussion (merged)

absolutely brilliant!! We might as well paint the whole field O & W checkerboard to increase the chances of receivers getting lost in the secondary.
Then we could paint the yard line markers and hash marks black. Man, this is fun.

Exactly! Tradition still means something to some of us.

Tradition is only that which was around before you either were born or became a fan. People thought the power T was a bad idea when Dickey started it. Rocky Top did not become our fight song until 1972 and our uniforms have undergone numerous suttle changes over the years. So someone please explain to me this tradition when it comes to the uniforms because over the course of my life I have seen plenty of change in them.

They need to bring back the uni's that Johnny created with the white shoes. Those were the best we have ever had. Chuck Webb looked like a Hummer going down the field in the Cotton Bowl. Can't beat that look.

And by the way, BLACK SUCKS, just ask Vandy.

I think it would be amusing to change the uniforms (colors, design, w/e) just to get under the skin of some of the people on here like SOJ :)

The meltdowns would entertain me.

Really? What about when it gets under the skin of some of the big buck contributors. Jim Haslam and Charlie Anderson are both former players. I wonder what they would think?

I wonder what Hamilton and Kiffin would think about being left standing on the corner scracthing their ass? When they go fooling with UT tradition. That could very well happen.

In case you haven't noticed. the PTB (Powers That Be) at UT don't like a lot of change.

You act like the uniforms have never changed.

I am only 21 years old, and I began watching Vol football in 1995 when I was 8 years old (that I can remember anyway...first game I have an actual memory of is 95 bama) . Anyway, we have changed uniforms at least 2-3 times since I alone have been watching football. The changes don't have to be epic or anything, they can be the size of the lettering, or the style, or it can be the shade of orange, or it can be orange tops + orange bottoms, or you can keep the home jerseys the same but have some snazzy alternates.

You take the whole tradition of the uniform thing so seriously as though our players are still wearing the same rags that players used in 1928 on shield watkins field or something.

I have UT shirts older than you.

We tried gray shading on the numbers one time. It sucked.

We tried Orange pants, jerseys, and shoes one time. Wore it against Bama. It looked horrid, and we got trounced. UT packed the shoes up, and sent them to poor soccer clubs in Russia (seriously).

If a uniform change is that important to you, then go find you a team that wears what you want. We are Tennessee and we wear Tennessee Orange and White, our official school colors. And we just happen to be proud of it.

If you want black cheer for Okie State or Oregon State. And there are several schools out there wearing the high school uniform that you are idolizing.

My dad is a retired UT engineering professor and I was running around the UT campus since the early 1960's. My son has UT shirts older than you. The uniforms change a bit every year, but never away from orange and white. I hope they never will.

:clapping:

Uniforms are fine as they are...could go back to only the one solid stripe on side of pants...But, "Take the names off of the Jerseys please..." team first...me second!

the black jersey looks awesome with the orange. MH knows thay would see out. It's coming because its a revenue thing.

Maybe we can get LED helmets. The T could flash when we get a first down!
When we get in the Orange Zone, the helmets could turn orange and the T white and it could pulse.
When they get into the endzone, checkerboards and digital fireworks with the Nike logo flashing on the back!

We will be so cool then.:crazy::crazy:

What scares me is that this thread will probabably be our biggest topic after NSD.

FYP.

Maybe not after NSD, because we'll still have b'ball to occupy our thoughts, and then spring practice. But once the orange and white game comes and goes, it's a LONG time (several months) until there will be anything major to keep our attention.

I don't know why people get so crazy over the uniforms. There is a huge contingent of people that want to see black jerseys. There are equally as many people who are vehemently opposed to this idea. I personally would like to see the unis stay exactly how they are, only with the orange pants being used more on the road, but the Vols are my team, and more than anything I want to see them win, regardless of what they are wearing.

I would bet a large sum of money there are more who DON'T want black than those who do

That being said, CLK WON'T significantly change the home uniform. It is too classic
