Since the KNS has been slow or negligent to post its UT-UF game report card, what are your grades, Volnation?

QB- C Kiffin was limited by Crompton's ability and kept JC in manageable situations until the end. He didn't lose the game for the Vols so he doesn't receive a failing grade.

RB- B Hardesty had 96 tough yards between the tackles showing the promise he held since the 2006 Cal game. Bryce Brown danced way too much instead of charging into whatever seams or holes the O-line made.

WR- D Receivers made 0 big plays. G Jones inexplicably failing to stay in the end-zone and catching the 3rd down pass out of bounds was a huge fail.

OL- A- Despite being thin at the position, the O-line produced a yeoman's effort opening creases for Hardesty and keeping the Gator D out of the backfield most of the day.

DL- A Dan Williams was a force in the interior. Ben Martin and Chris Walker each had a sack.

LB- C Once LaMarcus Thompson went down, so did the intensity of the Vol LB corps. To allow a 235 lb throwing FB to gain multiple first downs on 3 and 3 when the box was stacked was inexcusable.

DB- A+ All-American play by EB all day. Janzen Jackson's ball-separating hit on Brandon James set the tone for the day. The Gator receiving corps were a non-factor.

ST- C Lincoln made all of his attempts but Chad Cunninham is NOT the answer as the kickoff specialist.

Coaching- A+ Give this staff credit for developing a blue-print for future DC's on Florida's schedule for slowing down the spread. To hold TT to just 115 yards passing and Florida to approx. 320 yards overall is commendable. CLK's use of the power running game to mask JC deficiencies and keep the game close was what we Vol fans had preached but hadn't seen in years from the previous coaching regime.

Overall- B Rarely is a moral victory acceptable but yesterday's performance was about as good as could've been expected. For me, to think that the Vols had a puncher's chance of winning this game midway through the fourth quarter was more than I could've expected. The goodwill and PR from this game will go a long way in the recruiting wars.

Anyone know the injury report on Lamarcus Thompson?

The hamstringing of the offense, the knowledge of the other team that Crompton can only throw 5 yds or to them, and the amount of field time the D saw in the third all are major reasons for the Vol loss.....again. If that doesn't fail someone then why have grades.
I do understand what you are saying about grade one, however, and your grades are well thought out. Thanks for doing that.....

QB: C-. Crompton missed throws that needed to be completed. Plus the two interceptions thrown which puts him at SEVEN already.

RB: B. Hardesty had a respectable game, but would've liked more of Bryce Brown and David Oku.

WR: C-. Same as the QB, because there were missed throws and the recievers dropped some catchable balls.

OL: B+. A thin line did pretty well, but Crompton had a somewhat smaller pocket than usual and not as many running lanes as there could've been.

DL: A. The front four were exceptional, minus the missed sack by Wes Brown when Tebow ran back across the field for a first.

LB: B-. Rico McCoy seemed to have a typically good performance, but the loss of Thompson hurt the LB's significantly.

DB: A. Eric Berry played a whale of a game, but the secondary overall was pretty good, helped by Janzen Jackson's freight-train collision with Brandon James.

ST: D. Need a kickoff specialist with a stronger leg. Watching Brandon James field the ball at the 10 instead of the goal line was a bit painful.

Coaching: A+. I give a TON of credit to CLK and the staff for having the team ready to play. They gave what they had and could've won if not for the JC mistakes.

Overall: B+. Great effort, one that we can all be proud of. Not a thing in the world to be ashamed of. This performance will DEFINITELY raise some eyebrows among other SEC teams and recruits alike.

Wouldn't call it inexcusable, nobody else stops him on 3rd and 3 either.

CLK nailed it. You have to get them in 3rd and more than that, to take that play out of the game.

Pretty good grading, guys.

I guess our coaching staff did a lot of things right for this game, but there were still some decisions to wonder about. I noticed our first play from scrimmage ... was the same one we ran 4 times in a row at end of UCLA.
And where was Brandon Warren? On both the overthrow to Stocker on left sideline, and the underthrow to D.Moore in the right side, I have to think that Warren would have a better chance to get to those 2 balls. Where was he? And last possession before the half, I know its not prime field position, but any play from scrimmage could be a scoring opportunity; I would not have squandered it. Still, the day's work went better than it might have.

I don't agree that qb was an F

Crompton's one genuine mistake was that final pass, and the mistake wasn't that it was intercepted, it was that he locked onto to the reciever, telegraphed the pass, and hand-delivered the interception.

Tebow did almost the same thing, he just had the talent to utlimately throw the ball in such a way that in a normal universe either his reciever catches it or it's incomplete. Berrys just not normal.

The deal with Crompton is that he's still a rebuilding project after the way he was (at least mentally) mismanaged by CPF & company. I completely agreed with sticking with him even after last week, because the talent is there, and if we bag him now, we might as well kick him off campus. The kid was screwed up by previous coaching blunders- plus, since Stephens was subjected to much the same, I doubt he's in any better shape.

Unfortunately, what that means is we're stuck with going with the kind of conservative, run-heavy game plan we used yesterday. At the same time, Crompton completed 11 of 19 while Tebow completed 14 of 19- and who would you say has the best overall defensive backfield?

Crompton, right now, is a C quarterback, and that limited our options- but he did his job well given how enormously predictable our game plan was and given the tremendous quality of the D we were predictable against.

Maybe he won't improve- or even get worse- but right now I'm pleased with the improvement over last week and the fact he only choked once in the situation he was put in.
