Vol Parents: What team do your kids root for and how old are they?

My daughter is three...she will be a Vols fan.

Mississippi State will be acceptable, since both my parents are alum, but she will be a Vols fan first.

My nieces and nephews on my wife's side of the family are Bama fans. The other day my niece tried to get my daughter to say "Roll Tide," my daughter replies "No, my mommy and daddy says that's a bad word."

I was so proud I nearly cried. :)

Thats classic!
Have 2 nephews who are Bama fans & 2 nephews & a niece that grad from Auburn (Thanksgiving is fun!!!!) I will cheer for AU as long as it doesnt hurt UT, but NO WAY will I cheer for Bama!...unless their winning helps UT....and even then its STILL hard to do!!

Where did you get the ticket stub invites? My fiance is looking for UT Ticket Stubs type of idea for invites to our wedding. She showed me the idea and of course I was all for it. But she hasn't been able to find anything yet.

My wife found them on some website that did custom invitations. I would have to get details from her...

It is up to the parents to mold kids into good human beings. Sometimes that is directing them in a direction that they dont want to go.

Remember that you raise the kids, they dont raise you

Mine are 15,13,and 11 and are all UT fans. Been going to Neyland since they were very little.

When I was a kid my dad bled orange (he still does) and I rooted for Notre Dame. Why did I choose ND? 100% honest, I saw a really cool pre-game promo with Rocket Ishmail stepping out of a cloud of smoke in 1988 and that was the coolest team in the world! (C'mon, I was 10!)

Today, I'm a Vol thru and thru. I actually apologized to my dad recently for being a jerky teen and pulling for the other guys.

My child will arrive in about six weeks and his wardrobe is full of UT gear. That's what's up.

I have two kids (both girls) and they both bleed UT just like me! They are 14 and 10 and both play travel Softball in hopes of one day getting to play for the Big Orange! They both took lessons this summer from Lady Vols Softball players Shelby Burchell, who is a hometown girl and the catcher Ashley Andrews. Proud to say that both of my girls have Orange in their blood!:dance2:

I will speak on behalf of my Georgia Bulldog dad who has one Dawg fan daughter and one Vol fan daughter. You can raise them around GA and let them watch all the football games for that team you want, but at the end of the day they have their own minds and their own reasoning for doing so. My dad will give me a rough time about the Vols from time to time but he keeps up with them and we talk about each others teams. It's still football.

I'm all VOL, but my wife is LSU along with all her friends....we live in New Orleans. My 2 yr old has some UT stuff, but its highly frowned upon by my wife and her cohorts. She does know that anything orange is "Tennessee Orange" though. My other daughter is 2mos. I hope they follow the VOLS with me, but as long as its not Bama or UF, we're alright. I won't pay for college at those schools.

In Proverbs 22:6, the Good Lord says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Thusly, based on that verse, my 16-year-old daughter, born and raised near Orlando, Fla., (behind enemy lines) is ALL VOL and a VFL! Only difference between the two of us is that I hate bammer worse than any other team, while she feels the same way about florida. :salute:

I try to get my little nephew to say Go Vols! But always comes back with "no go Giants", which is great but he doesn't understand the difference yet. I keep working with him and eventually is gonna want to figure out why I always get him some kind of orange UT deal for his presents instead of a stupid toy.

You have done well, my friend. I am trying to do the same - raise 2 daughters behind gator lines. My oldest (8) has been to 2 games in Knoxville and is falling in line. My little one (4) will be no problem.

Both my girls know: if you don't root for Tennessee when the game is on, then better get out of the room!

I've trained my 2 year old to say "GoVols" every time he sees a capital T or the color orange. He said his ABCs he other day and as we were cheering for him, he threw in his own...GO VOLS!

I have two boys 8 & 5. The oldest is anything and everything Tennesssee. My youngest is just coming around to Tennessee again after not wanting to like the Vols because his older brother did. My wife is from Georgia but is a UTK alum and I was born and raised in East Tn and have two degrees from UTK. My in-laws decided to try and give my youngest some Dawg gear, seeing the opening to convert him, to which he responded "No thank you Grandma" When asked why he said "Because Georgia sucks and I'm a Vol..."

That's my boy.

And we live in TX, just east of College Station.

12, 9, and 5. All boys. Been taking them to games since each one was 3.

They can root for whomever they wish, but they don't watch anybody else play. My 5 yr old just has trouble with the whole Titans, Middle Tn, and Tn deal.

My 4 kids all root for TN. I think it has been a lifetime of indoctrination for them. We watch every football game, a lot of men's and women's BB games, and occasional baseball games. The kids have visited the campus, attended games in person, visited with Smokey, and heard multitudes of TN stories from my wife and me. The kids may have been raised in TX, but there is no burnt orange allowed in this house.

Saw a dad and his son at a sports bar and the dad had on SCar stuff, but the son was wearing Bama gear.

I felt for the man.

I wondered if there were any parents on here with that problem?

Is there a tactic or a certain point in a child's life where you drive it home who to cheer
for and why they have to/should?

You vuy ur kid,an ut rattle, ut bib, ut toddler shirt. You teach them go vols when they are two and let them yell it as loud as they want so it is fun for them. thats how u start. Very young.

if you have a new baby, there used to be a baby Volunteer dvd. One of those videos specially made for the attentiveness of a young one, like baby Einstein, etc.

It was really good, and all my boys watched it.

My mom is an Alabama fan. My dad is a Tennessee fan. They bought me an orange UT blanket and a dirty ol' Alabama blanket when I was a baby. I always wanted to sleep with the orange one.... Ever since, I've been a VFL.
