I was there, sitting with my neighbor who is a big bammer. I was the only orange in the entire section (SW Corner endzone about 20 rows up).

When the vols went up 21-0, aka the infamous Peyton naked bootleg where he literally jogged into the endzone and not one crimson defender knew he had the ball, I stood up to cheer and waa PELTED with open mustard and ketchup packets. The fan behind me also caught some ketchup shrapnel and went and got security and they kicked the bum out.

It was the first time I had ever seen us beat Bama in person and it remains one of my favorite games ever because of the way the Vols beat that @$$.

Man I was sitting in those end zone seats! I was about 5 or 6 rows up, right where Joey ran up to after scoring that TD. Do you remember the Bamer fan up towards the top that was drunk and fell down about three steps? He kept talkin smack and and my friend and I gave him some back and karma took over early in the 4th when he stumbled down.

Was at that game too sitting in the Tide Pride section with a big Bama booster who was a customer of mine. By the end of the 3rd qtr, my wife and I were the only ones left in that section. They had all bailed including my customer. He said he couldn’t take it anymore and went back to the RV. It was a fabulous night.

Another Tennessee classic story by the great Marvin West. Joey & Peyton burned those Bammers early on, & John Ward's call was classic.

I got his autograph as he was coming out of a team meeting at the Hyatt Regency. I also was at the game at Legion Field. Great memories

Who knew it at the time, but that was the first of seven in a row. I miss those days.

Met Joey Kent at a football game a few years ago. Was just a super nice guy. I asked which was more memorable, “the catch” vs Bama or “the hit” vs Florida and he smiled and said both. Hit vs Florida of course would be targeting and ejection these days.
