In my opinion the root problem is a lack of leadership in the UTAD.

For the 50 years from 1963-2003 the University of Tennessee's athletic department was led by 2 athletic directors.

Bob Woodruff 1963-1985
Doug Dickey 1986-2003

Both were former SEC head football coaches and both had ties to Tennessee and each other. Woodruff played for General Neyland at Tennessee. Dickey played for Woodruff at Florida then later Woodruff hired his former QB as head coach at Tennessee.

Coach Tenure Hired By
Dickey 1964-1969 Woodruff
Battle 1970-1976 Woodruff
Majors 1977-1992 Woodruff
Fulmer 1993-2008 Dickey

In the 14 years since the retirement of Doug Dickey the UTAD has been led by 3 athletic directors.

Mike Hamilton 2003-2011
Dave Hart 2011-2017
John Currie 2017-present

Of these 3, only Hart had experience as either a player or coach of any sport. Hart played basketball at Alabama and coached high school basketball after a year as a graduate assistant at Alabama.

Coach Tenure Hired By
Kiffin 2009 Hamilton
Dooley 2010-2012 Hamilton
Jones 2013-2017 Hart
TBD 2017-? Currie

How do we fix it? Maybe our Haslam booster problem fixes itself with the current court proceedings in Chattanooga. Who knows?

I get the feeling that a huge percentage of the Vol fanbase is about to checkout permanently.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'm tired of caring so much about something that has become a national punchline.

How long have the Haslams been involved with Tennessee?

Lane Kiffin looked like he was going to be a pretty good hire, appeared to coach people up, was recruiting well, then he screwed us utterly and completely. That was followed by the Dooley panic hire. The rest is history.

We hired a moron for AD and our biggest financial supporter treats us like the minor league version of the Browns.

We had options. Moron was forced down our throats. We all know that story. To me, Currie was an unknown. I listen to Doug Mathews, and he was, like me, giving him the benefit of the doubt. His was actually praising him on his Sunday show (ended before the Schiano storm hit) about keeping his cards close to the chest.

Little did we know. It'll be interesting to hear him next Sunday. Should be one for the ages.

House really needs to be cleaned out from Currie on up the tree. Won't happen, but needs to.

Jimmy Haslam hired Currie.

Make no mistake.

Currie was Mike Hamilton's right hand man and instrumental in Fulmer's firing in 2008.

Wow i didnt know that. So there is virtually no way to get rid of them. Thats spectacular.

And apparently no criminal charges...

"The national travel center chain Pilot Flying J has struck a deal with federal prosecutors that will spare the company from criminal charges stemming from a scheme to defraud commercial customers of rebates. "

"Haslam, who also owns the Cleveland Browns, repeatedly has denied knowledge of the scheme, and he is not charged."....

AAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! We can't get rid of 'em!!!

Pilot Flying J trial: Jury hears Haslam’s voice on secret recording | fox8.com

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn -- Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam claims he was not aware of the multi-million dollar fraud scheme at Pilot Flying J that resulted in guilty pleas from 14 of his employees.

But Tuesday, a federal jury heard a secret recording of Haslam making reference to one employee who knowingly overcharged a client, as well as testimony from another former Pilot Flying J employee who claims Haslam knew his staff was taking advantage of small trucking companies.

Haslam has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing.

But, he is the CEO of Pilot Flying J and the company has admitted to criminal responsibility for overcharging customers and agreed to repay $85 million in restitution, plus another $92 million in fines.

The jury heard Haslam's voice on a secret recording from a training session for Pilot Flying J employees, where the company's former president, Mark Hazelwood explained the fraud scheme as 'savings'.
Haslam says, "That sounds like Stick's old deal with western..."

John "Stick" Freeman, Pilot Flying J's former vice president of sales, was caught overcharging a trucking company called Western Express.

But, Pilot Flying J agreed to make good, by buying a dilapidated airplane from the company for $1 million.

In another recording played for the jury, Freeman says Haslam absolutely knew about the scheme, because Freeman told him and Haslam loved it.

FOX 8 reached out to the Browns, the NFL and Pilot Flying J for comment on the audio recording.

An NFL spokesperson said the league does not have any comment at this time.

A company spokesperson says,

“As we have said from the outset, Jimmy Haslam was not aware of any wrongdoing.”

Decades.

Jim Haslam played for Neyland and was on the 1951 national championship team.

But Dickey was man enough to tell him no. Appreciate any donations, but I make the decisions.

Since Dickey retired, The Haslams have been running things.

Hamilton was hired and tied Fulmers hands for the most part.
Haslam money took control and tied everyone's hands at that point.
Those hands following became hand puppets to the Haslams.

I slightly disagree. It is not "lack" of leadership it's the wrong leadership. IMO you had the academics and bean counters finally get control of the UTAD. Their leadership for some time has been to keep the rubes in the seats and the money flowing and winning is not a priority at all, not even makes their top ten. Their intent is the same game we see played out in politics and Wall Street by many CEOs, keep kicking the can down the road, APPEAR to be doing something to succeed, meanwhile dump management or coaches every 4 or 5 years with another new face and keep the rubes satisfied. You have evidence in our last two hires or attempts to hire. CBJ looked like a coach, was not a coach, he was a total pr guy until the wheels fell off. Schiano was a total failure in waiting how do you hire a coach at UT that barely has a career .500 record????? Currie is just another kick the can down the road guy he should be fired this morning for incompetence, instead the powers that be will can his sorry axx IMO in 4 years when his hire completely flops. Currie is now on a quest to pun ish the fans and his selection will not produce very man y wins at UT, he's going to show us how bad we were to reject Schiano. eff Currie and eff Davenport if she keeps his incompetent axx on the payroll is my opinion.

Jimmy Haslam has been in control since Dickey retired.

Currie, Hart and Hamilton all puppets of Haslam.

That is NOT leadership!!!
