Better care about the grades and the kids being in class because if the APR kept dropping like it was it could lead to loss of scholarships.

It sounds as if more than a few of our fans may not be smart enough to realize that if you don't pass, you don't play. In addition, Tennessee's Administration is more likely to give a few perks to the football program with the high APR. Wins will determine if the coaches remain and if the fans come to the ball games, but you see what happens when coaches do not recruit player who also want an education.

After reading posts on this message board for a year, I would imagine wins are more important.

What's more important to everyone? A great GPA or CBJ winning 6 games every year?

Be honest.

NCAA says you have to do both, ask UNC, Miami, USC, etc....

I'm so glad we had "settle" for Butch. Nobody else I'd rather have as our coach.

Kudos to Butch for staying ahead of the curve on this issue. It is possible to pass just enough for eligibility but society/fans/donors don't like any perception/association of anything other than commitment to academics.

I'm sure that if academics played no role in today's college athletics, coaches would not focus on it. For Butch when he arrived on the scene, that was one area needing focus that wasn't dependent on his field coaching skills. I'm not surprised by his focus or success in this matter.

College athletes have the best access to tutoring and study resources. To quote Butch: "agin" it's a necessary achievement.

Do any of you still feel this way?

It's funny what we celebrate when times "seem" good vs. the mattress burning times.

Why would anybody not still be proud of the improvement in GPA? You lost me on this one.

Why would we ever NOT celebrate something like this?. It is, after all, the actual point of college.

Yea Boca you lost me on this also.

This is one of the many things our coach has turned around that was non-existent. Winning is coming and I hope the Big Orange Train already has enough speed that you naysayers can't possibly jump back on!

Kudos to Butch and the boys on the team GPA, it was a great accomplishment and should still be appreciated.

Butch is still a God-awful gameday coach who blew two sure marquee wins for the program in similar fashions over the course of 3 weeks.

Yeah... I'm glad he brought that up.

Just fair balance and whatnot since what Boca was asking is "does anybody still care about the APR win now that we've had two bad losses vs OU and Florida?"
