...however, I really don't see the media being the first to know any leaked information. Official announcements? Yes. Of coarse.

Look back at the Saban deal: he came on air and looked the media in the eye and lied straight faced about his desire to coach at Bama. The fact is that Bama didn't make the first move, Saban did...ironically, after TN beat Shula that year...in the middle of the season. They were under contract negotiations during that season, but Saban or UA never said a word...til the season was over and voila!!! And guess who was looking over Mal Moore's shoulder in the UAAD? Yep, Dave Hart.

All the meanwhile, rumors just like these were swirling around Tuscaloosa for months before the official announcement was made.
