Coal from the Cumberland Plateau has been dying a slow death for a long time. Long before Trump, heck all the way back to the 1980s. The coal is too high in sulfur to comply with stricter environmental controls (thanks to Acid Rain regulations) and the highest quality and easiest to extract seams have already been depleted.
I know because my family were coal miners. I grew up falling asleep listening to the sounds of coal truck Jake Breaks coming down the mountain and L&N trains loaded with car after car of coal heading down the valley. Now the trucks no longer run and the Sequatchie Valley RR (successor to the relevant L&N lines) had their tracks pulled up decades ago. Long loooong before Trump

I hear what you're saying. I do however believe the coal in WV and VA - as I'm told - is highest in quality for use in steel mills.

And from what I understand, Tennessee Coal was really good for generation of electricity. But the more stringent sulfur restrictions to deal with acid rain made that less desirable.

That's irrelevant. What's relevant is that there's a difference in the sex/gender of those two people. One is male and one is female. If you can't see that difference then you're part of the problem. Many Democrats struggle with that
