VN's very own political meme thread...

When discussing Donald Trump and Black youths in New York City, the most prominent and frequently referenced topic is the Central Park Five (also known as the Exonerated Five).

In 1989, five Black and Latino teenagers were wrongly accused and convicted of a brutal attack on a white female jogger in Central Park, New York City. Donald Trump took out full-page ads in major New York newspapers, including the New York Times, calling for the death penalty for these teenagers, The New York Times reports. The advertisements also fueled racial tensions surrounding the case.

Decades later, in 2002, the five teenagers were exonerated when DNA evidence matched the actual perpetrator who confessed to the crime. However, Trump has consistently refused to apologize for his comments and has continued to express doubt about their innocence, according to CBS News.

The Central Park Five have since filed a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump, alleging that his continued false statements about them during debates and interviews have caused them harm.
