In the late 1940s and early 1950s, my family (who happen to be white) were sharecroppers in southern Missouri. My mom and dad both picked cotton as kids, as soon as they were old enough, to help their family survive. I don't see the racism. I know that slaves help pick cotton, but cotton was an entire industry (still is) that required cotton to be handpicked by people of all races until they invented big machines to do it.

Slavery was a horrible thing. Cotton picking was just a job that required people of any race willing to work hard.
