What do they have in common?

Reading this board this year, we're about as divided as I've seen, and I'm seeing some disturbing trends that are very reminiscent of the presidential election we just had. We're becoming inundated with posters calling for Butch's head and generally bringing negativity to the board. At the same time, there are polls (like this one) that paint a different picture.. If you want to view "likes" as another form of polling, go look at the number of likes some of the more well spoken pro-Butch posts have gotten vs. the corresponding negative posts.

The election shocked most people because those with the loudest voices were chanting in unison, and I think that's happening here - while there are many of us that either are fully behind CBJ or at the very least fervently against firing yet another HC that has brought us back from the grips of death, we're keeping quiet.

I'm not one to post often and I frequently refrain to keep from dealing with the insanity of many of you that I know never attended my University or developed the emotional capacity to deal with a setback. However, we're coming to a point where the noise is becoming distracting and excessively negative to players and administration, and those of us who still support the program really need to be speaking up.

Like it or not, CBJ is the best hope we have for relevance for the next 5-6 years. We're not going to lure Saban away from Bama, we're not going to tempt Gruden out of retirement (if you think he'd perform that well), and we're not going to outbid Texas on the latest hotshot coach this year (or next, when they can't handle lack of immediate returns and fire the next unlucky soul who takes a job there).

And before anyone posts.. yes I saw the USC game, yes I was embarrassed, and yes I'm disappointed in the season. I also remember a certain WVU Clemson game a few years ago right after a 6-7 season the previous year that caused many to call for Swinney's head(sorry.. I'm stuck living in the Carolinas so this is the example I remember most clearly). They kept him and let him develop his program, because some people in the administration actually saw the progress and development being made and didn't focus on the short-term. I haven't made an excuse for a player robbing a gas station in a while, I haven't had to hang my head when APR talk comes up, and I've actually been able to follow our team competing to win the East for the first time in nearly a decade. There's progress to see if you open your eyes to it. Remember where we were..

One has to look no further than the players after game press conferences. This Team 120 is together and the TEAM is buying into what CBJ and staff is selling. I look no further than being 1-0 after this weekend.

Exactly. These miserable people on this forum no where near represent the base. Just loud mouthed punks who need somewhere to cry and whine about their misery. Saw alot of comparisons to Hugh Freeze last few years, Ole Miss has to beat Miss State to make a bowl. Charlie Strong ( who I actually wanted before Jones) don't look so good either, and is probably fired. Also saw praise for Dan Mullen, not going bowling. aTm is going to finish with close to same record as us, so Sumlin isn't the superstar that many on this board thought. CBJ isn't going anywhere. Let em cry.

So if I'm reading this right, you're suggesting that we keep the status quo (voting for hillary) instead of changing it (voting for trump)?

This is gonna end well....

You're reading way too far into what I wrote :p. I merely was commenting on there being a very sizeable (likely majority) group that doesn't want to fire Butch and that is either keeping quiet due to backlash or just avoiding the boards altogether because of all the negativity.

I support Butch. I keep quiet mostly because I feel I don't have to defend myself against the overwhelming amout of negative posters on this board. I mostly skip over their post and/or thread.I would love to see more of our fans supporting Butch in what he has done, yeah he hasn't been perfect but the guy is still learning what it takes to win in the SEC. Give him a couple more years and he'll be fine, if not, then farh Butch, but it's not going to happen this year.

Bringing up politics in the Football forum is ill advised. I agree with what your saying OP but this will not end well. The wingnuts and moonbats will have the knives out by page 3

Not sure if you realize who won the election, but to extend your analogy, the loudest voices ended up being the correct ones.

I think most of us "Negavols" are realistic in understanding the job Butch has done to bring the program back. And yes, by and large, there have been relatively few embarrassing issues arise, although you seem to gloss over the still pending rape charges.

I think the difference is that we believe this year was Butch's ceiling, and it wasn't enough to win one of the worst East divisions in recent memory. The idea that he will progress the program to championships with less talent & depth is debatable, but what isn't is that the team has yet to overachieve, & that is an indication of the lack ability to get the most out of your players.

And to add insult to injury, Butch has an unbelievable tic in which he responds to any criticism with absurd coach speak cliches that absolutely no actually believes or pays attention to at this point. And that is being generous as some appear to be outright lies. Does anyone actually believe Hurd had a "lower extremity" issue; or that Kongbo lost a FIFA game? Or that he had no expectations of winning the SEC east, only being 1-0 each week? For many of us, his inability to acknowledge the failure is an indication he doesn't really think there's a problem. That is evidenced by the "we won 8 games & are headed to a 3rd bowl game" so shut the hell up responce.

At the end of the day, Butch is a good man & did a hell of a job bringing us back. And he will get another year to try & win the division. Unfortunately, many of us believe we are watching the beginning of the end of the Jones era.

People starting multiple threads calling for the firing of Butch will NOT get Butch fired. They are just wasting their time.

Butch Jones will be the Tennessee coach next season.

I actually think this is one of coach Jone's strengths. What makes you think that every Tom, Dick and Harry "FAN", deserves to hear a coach talk negatively about his team and players? I respect his right to keep some of this stuff private. Call it what you want. A lie? You want him to call a presser and say "Hey Tom, Dick, Harry - Jalen Hurd, who has been great for this program up to this season has a little emotional problem, and we are trying to work it out, but it looks like he's gonna be off the team soon, hope you fans like the truth as I throw this kid under the bus". Or let's just say he has a lower extremity injury and let it go at that.

Whether you like it or not, team chemistry is like family and some things aren't for public consumption.

Bob Ewell fell on his knife. Jalen Hurd has a lower extremity injury.

From "To Kill A Mockingbird", -lots of parallels here: https://youtu.be/Xzk7_KYiNis

Participation trophies, championships of life, moral victories, etc.

This is what is wrong with Tennessee and our country.
