VN is a microcosm of what's wrong in the world

Imagine this scenario, you find out that the cook at your favorite restaurant spits in every other plate of food. Do you just grin and bear it and keep eating there or do you pull a "snowflake" move and stop going and spending your money on a plate of spit?

Is the Vols recent football results causing you personal harm or subjecting you to potential disease?

Ridiculous analogy.

If the true scenario doesn't fit, just make up one?

Let me try.

Imagine this scenario, you find out that when you pushed the Coke button on the vending machine in the break room, it gave you a Sprite. Do you just grin and bear it or do you pull a "snowflake" move to organize a "stay home from work" protest and demand a change in leadership?

Get some perspective, have a more balanced life, understand how the process works.

Ridiculous analogy.

Not ridiculous, he is saying that he pays for a product that he isn't satisfied with, therefore doesn't want to continue indulging in it.

Same thing happened when Fulmer was canned. Immediate relief but then we got the Kiffin/Dooley/Butch carousel. Bad hires? sure but that's a chance you take when you not only change mid season but change overall. Of course you expect better than what you had but it doesnt always happen.

Always a risk.

When the chances of improvement are much greater than the chances of not improving or getting worse, making a move is the right thing to do.

No, you don't. You can choose not to spend your time and money on UT sports. You don't have the right to "expect" change.

Should I ask UT for a refund every time they lose? No.

What do you think we are talking about here? I don't think anybody is going to form a coup and storm the AD office. We are talking about not spending our collective money on the same mediocrity that we've been fed for the past decade.

It's not a ridiculous analogy at all. I am paying for a product. Just like I pay for a product at UT. If the product is unsuitable, I am not going to just keep on paying for it.

No, I'd stop buying from the machine until it was fixed. Just like I'm no longer buying from UT until things are fixed.

If that is as far as it goes, I think that is reasonable.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were guaranteed by our favorite sports teams that they would always meet our expectations? But, we know that is not real life.

Butch Jones is in the process of failing as the head football coach at the University of Tennessee. From all indications, this will be his last season at the helm. He will be paid handsomely to not coach the Volunteers any more.

However, the reaction to this situation is a typical millennial reaction to other problems in the world:

--Many of you are taking this as a personal insult.

--It's not enough to have him fired, you want Butch Jones, his coaches and his family embarrassed and run out of town in shame.

--In a typical snowflake move, you are calling for boycotts and protests. Grow up.

--You want everyone to know you are not getting your way (not fired on your timetable) and you are more upset than anyone else. Congratulations, we noticed.

--Folks who are struggling to pass freshman math at UT or struggling to hold down a low paying job are demanding excellence from someone else. Anyone else see the irony in this?

--One guy even said, his 7th grader has already made the proclamation that he is no longer considering signing with the University of Tennessee

--2 or 3 in the media try to just report the facts and because they won't demand that Butch be fired immediately, y'all begin to attack them. And one of them is a former QB who gave his all for Tennessee

--The implication that you are not a fan if you go to the homecoming game is such a millennial move. Do you plan to block the streets to the game too.

--Anyone who tries discuss anything about UT football that doesn't include Fire Butch immediately is met with, "you aren't a fan or why don't you just go root for vandie (their spelling not mine)."

--You demand the "rich boosters" to shell out the $12 million to buy out the coaching staff because "they can easily afford it." It's their money, they earned it, try that.

--But, you do try to raise money to put an ad in the paper to show your displeasure. How's that going?

Oh, grow up. None of us give enough money to effect anything about the University of Tennessee. Your stomp fits, protests, boycotts, etc will not have any effect on anything other than making you look silly....and you do. Real life doesn't work that way and no one really cares how upset you are about UT football, our President, or anything else.

I'm a fan and I'm not happy with the current state of affairs at UT. But, I will be there on Saturday and plan to have a good time at the game with friends and family. Loyalty used to mean something.

That's my opinion, oughta be your's!!

Just because someone is a millinial doesn't mean they are a liberal. Boycotting is something that has been around way before the US. In a way boycotting Butch is more American than going to the game.

(Don't be triggered.)

You misread that or I wasn't clear. I don't mean to accuse you of being mean. I meant to say you are stupid.:)
I guess that high IQ failed you miserably. You need a, in between that and or. Plus my $65,000 trucking job is pretty high on the income scale to to be included in low paying job. He makes over 4 million per year if he can't handle the heat suck it the FU butter up. Go bag groceries, or some other job with lower expectations.

We all make decisions daily when it comes to spending our money, that is not what I'm disagreeing with. I disagree that someone spitting in one's food is the same as a football team losing games. One causes personal harm, the other does not.

If one doesn't like what is going on, don't go or watch. That is personal prerogative. Getting all up in arms and trying to incite a boycott is taking things to a whole new level. Too many seem to think they can force their will on others just because of their own personal preferences. It's not up to you to force change. If enough stop going and supporting, changes will be made with or without your boycott efforts.

Very good response. However, I enjoy reading VN. It's like a trip to Dollywood. It makes me feel a whole lot better about myself. :)

Oh boy, another one of those who thinks they are superior to the people they disagree with.. Reminds me of the 'progressive' mentality that is currently ruining the country..

Very well said.

I think even those of us who have believed CBJ could turn it around are ready for a change.

However the Big Mac at the drive thru mentality of many on this board embarass me as a fan of the UT Volunteers. ( let me beat you piles to the punch: we know you're embarrassed by CBJ/the offense/slogans/ whatever little thing you can think of).

I just hope that some of the fans slink away to another fanbase and just be the front runners they are.

Constant change should scare intelligent folks. What I've noticed about those who aren't afraid of anything including change is they aren't very bright.

6 coaches (counting the intern) in 12 years is a sad state of affairs.

But that's ok. Keep being brave and if te next coach doesn't give you what you demand in 3 years start throwing your littl hissy fits until you get what you want.

I'm not boycotting, and will be attending the rest of the home games. That being said, if I didn't already have tickets to the games, I wouldn't attend because I am not happy with the product on the field. And I don't think he was saying that he incurred personal harm from the football games, was just saying he was dissatisfied with the product (which is seemingly getting no attention from the distributor of the product).

So let me get this straight. If you were LOYAL to your favorite restaurant for years on end and you go there lets say 10 ten times a year. Would you keep being LOYAL to that restaurant if they raised the prices every year and the food kept getting worse and worse ? On top of that the chef comes out and tells us you don't know what good food is that he knows how to cook. The same restaurant goes from a 5 star place to a 1 star place. If you keep going there and paying more for worse and you consider that LOYAL, then good luck and have at it. Football over there is a business, if you run off all your paying customers with higher prices and less results you will not have a business for long.

It's not a ridiculous analogy at all. I am paying for a product. Just like I pay for a product at UT. If the product is unsuitable, I am not going to just keep on paying for it.

Ok, following your train of thought. If you dislike Dr. Pepper, do you believe it is your responsibility and right to undertake the effort to get Dr. Pepper removed from the market or the formula changed so that you will like Dr. Pepper?

How about, if you don't like Dr. Pepper, you just don't buy or drink it. If enough other people decide the same, then eventually Dr. Pepper will disappear from the market or they will change their formula. It is not incumbent on your to force that change. That's how the free market works. Organizing and bullying is not the same.
