When you are 6’4 230 pounds with 4.5 forty speed while also being a darn good football player college coaches will come calling and calling often. For Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, CA/ Rancho Verde HS) the coaches from the west coast, east coast, and every school in between have offered and are looking to land [...]

The article says Ed Orgeron is the defensive coordinator. Probably want to change that.

Sounds to me like We do not stand much of a chance with this kid...He expects to compete for titles right away and not go to a rebuilding program....That's bad news, We ARE rebuilding...Unless We really step up and do something special this season We won't land this kid.

I think having a big win mixed into an 8-4 season with a solid bowl outing could praise interest in a lot of kids minds.

I felt like he was pretty much a USC guy in that interview.

He doesn't want to go to a rebuilding school, which would be Tennessee.

And he doesn't want to go somewhere that might be getting a new staff, which many have speculated would be Florida if CUM went to ND.

If he comes on an official and depending on how the season plays out...the Vols will have a chance.

How can anyone see us having a chance or that being a promising article when he says this?

“I am looking to come in and play right away for titles and national titles,” said Powell. “I don’t want to go to a rebuilding program."

Spin it how you want but theres your answer to UTs chances.

I would say that it is going to be tough to get a lot of early playing time at a school that is already winning national titles or regularly in the mix! Could be a double edged sword.

Yep, anyone who says we are not rebuilding is living in a fantasy world.

Mixed bag on the interview. He holds us in a high regard because we offered first, but he doesn't want to go to rebuilding project, which we fit. There is a couple of ifs that need to go our way. If he visits, and if our season does not resemble a work in progress as much as it sounds like it will.

We might would have a chance.

He's going to USC...on a side note, I think I read an article yesterday on a recruit visiting officially Sept. 19th I.E. @Florida Weekend??? What's the fun in that? See how the students react when not at a game. Maybe I dreamt it, but I'm pretty sure it was a Cali kid...maybe DE or LB

I tell you what and this will probably make yall think well duh..but usc is rediculous its like for the most part no matter what you are competing with them for every player. jesse scroggins, prater and now Ronald powell its almost like a lose lose situation because while i know we are on the rise whats not to like about usc it sucks having to compete with them. but at least now we are competing with the best of the best.

Well...Things COULD be great for us. If we shock the world, we'll shock Powell as well. His official visit to UF is when we play them...A win or a very close game (at the very least) could swing lots of talent in our direction.

Count me in, then...I think the only people who are delusional are the ones who keep assuming that this team is bereft of talent and years behind other programs. Last year's team was largely the same one that won the SEC East and their bowl game the previous year. That O-Line is largely the same as last year and this year.

What's the difference?...the Offensive Coaching. I think we made a MAJOR upgrade in that department and added some deadly weapons to the roster.
The D-line looks more promising than it has in several years. The secondary is perhaps the most talented unit in recent history.
It's amazing how things can change in one season, and I believe a lot of pundits and fans are going to be shocked at this team. Kiffin, the staff, and the players have invested heavily in the Spring and offseason, not to for Wins in 2012...but THIS year. I'm not about to allow last year to color me a pessimist.

Soulds like he doesn't want to work for a Championship. He wants one handed to him on a silver pladder. That's why he want's to go to a school like USC and UF. Iv'e always like him as a recruit, but this article kind of turned me off to him.

I disagree. I think he wants to win big. He also knows that a program not near the top is incapable of winning big. It's possible to win if you're at a team at the bottom of the top 25, but you have to go undefeated to possibly made the championship game. He wants to guarantee that he'll be in the big time. Nothing wrong with that.

Can you imagine how sick our defense would be if we landed Powell and Luc? It is fantasy at this point, but holy crap.

He wouldn't be playing for us in 09. After that, who knows what will happen. We'll have a clearer idea in about a month.
