They don't all get paid 7. Some a lot less. Just pay him more to stay at UT.....
I don't believe CTV leaves but nobody on this board knows CTV goals and aspirations in life... Including myself..

Edit: San Francisco is a big market team, the Giants could pay $7 million a year and not blink an eye...

He doubles down dropping a MLB name:

I read the article, and I think the writer mentioning CTV was an afterthought, but it’s obviously got me attention of a bunch of people.

Perhaps someone from VN should tweet out they’re hearing that The Athletic writer may be under consideration for assistant to the junior copy editor at the esteemed Des Moines Register 😉

$7 million a year will get a MLB manager... No matter where they have to live.

The Dodgers are annual contenders, the A’s actually have a ton of potential as do the D-backs, so the giants have every reason to over spend for a manager right now.
Like you said, they are a big market team and are usually serious about being competitive.
It would break my heart if he left Knoxville, but I’d be proud if our coach got the opportunity to manage a big league squad, because I think he’d kill it in the majors!

Its "out of the box" because MLB coaches almost always have MLB playing experience or at least coaching experience. The best college baseball coaches stay college baseball coaches.

There's only 3 managers in all of MLB making $7 million. Bob Melvin, who SF just fired, was making $4 million which is tied for 7th among MLB teams. That money isn’t going to go near as far in San Francisco, either, and Tony already makes $3 mil/yr. He coaches a little more than ⅓ of the games, too. MLB at 162 games in 8 months is a grind.

Last MLB team to reach into the college ranks for a manager was the Yankees when they hired Dick Howser from Florida State in 1980, hasn't happened since, the MLB game is managed differently that the college game where the 18, 19 and 20 year old kids can and will do anything and everything on the baseball field. At the MLB level, the roles are more specialized for a 162 game regular season and the long haul, with most starting players multimillionaires by the time they are 26.

Hope Tony stays with the game he knows best until he needs to specialize on the MLB dugout.
