Vitello MLB rumor

Just saw that. Can’t say I’m surprised. It was only a matter of time before he was linked to pro jobs in addition to college. It does get exhausting seeing his name linked to every single opening when it’s available, but it’s not like he can control that.

I don’t think he’ll take it. I think he enjoys coaching “kids” and part of the reason he’s so great is his ability to recruit elite talent. He won’t control that in the pros. He won’t get to build his roster or have a talent advantage.

He could have a six month tenure…or be Tony LaRussa. All dependent on the patience of GMs, fans and owners.

This better be clickbait crap…

Anyone have any background or info ?
He’s been mentioned as an outside the box candidate. Apparently Bruce Boshy is the favorite with another former assistant being the other favorite. So it’s not nothing, but Vitello isn’t considered one of the front runners either.

CTV loves the college game and mentoring young men. He’s staying at UT. This is lots of nothing.
I love my teaching job but if a private university called wanting me to be a professor, I wouldn’t say no.

No I’m not fearmongering, I just don’t think “he likes coaching kids” is really that much of a pull.

Well the Rangers and Bruce Bochy just mutually agreed to part ways. Maybe that’s step one of him going back to the Giants.

Apples and oranges. He has influence in the college game and autonomy to “run the ship” that he would not have in MLB. Zero chance that CTV leaves now for the Giants. In another decade or so after winning a couple more NCs, perhaps he’d entertain the Cubs or Cardinals. I think he’s a college lifer.

“As of late 2024 and early 2025, the longest-tenured active MLB manager is Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays, who has managed the team since 2015. Following Cash is Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who became manager in 2016.”
