Vitello explains why Adidas is better for recruiting

This is interesting, if only because I have seen multiple people on VolNation assert that Nike does not give Oregon any special treatment, and does not represent or create an advantage for Oregon in recruiting. For Vitello to openly state that Nike attempted to steer someone from Tennessee to Oregon would seem to contradict that claim.

That said, as I understand it, all the different external entities steer these players to varying degrees, and there can be a "pecking order" where they reward certain schools or relationships before others. The ability to steer players is paramount to their ability to negotiate and earn money - you work with me, I push this player to consider or visit you, etc. It's just that Nike, being the apparel and sports marketing juggernaut they are, has an incredibly long and powerful reach.

Indeed, very interesting, and not something I would see Vitello as just saying to say it without there being actual validity to it.

Interesting. We have lost a few head scratching recruiting battles to Oregon in the last few years.

So it came down to being a second class citizen to Nike, with them having all control vs more money and being the adidas flagship school with us having control of customization. Nobody with Nike will ever have the control that Oregon does. Adidas was wide open. Now we are the Oregon for adidas

Well they are a good team in a **** conference, so I guess the big fish small pond theorem applies.
Meh, you can go to acc or whatever big 12 is now and get that. Eugene is cold, dirty drug infested rat hole. Not Portland bad ,but it's not somewhere to vacation. There has to be some heavy monetary incentives to get kids from the south there.

B1G is a s*** conference? Pretty sure they won the National championship last year with tOs… And it wasn’t a small margin of victory either. Also Michigan won the natty not too long ago as well. Matter of fact the only conference to consistently win the big game has been the B1G other than the SEC.

The Big 10 has won 5 football national titles in 28 years, with it being by only 2 teams . If they win another one this year I’ll give them their flowers, but until then I’ve about had it with everyone talking about how great they are this offseason

How many times do we have to confirm that $20 million is greater than $5 million?

Maybe my toddler is more advanced than I gave him credit for. Maybe this repetition is normal adult behavior.

It is an interesting discussion. Should we run it by you before we start new conversation? I didn't know you ran the show here. Congrats on the promotion!

There have been fleeting moments over the last 20 years where for a season or two the Big 10 was probably better (last 2 seasons, maybe at various moments from 2016-2018).
