Virginia Vols: Regarding UT License Plate

Can we get an update on how many more signatures we need? I have 2 cars I definitely want the tags for and two more I may get them for, but I don't want to tie up that money when we are still fairly far from the goal.

Update on the license plates - we have 149 prepaid applications. We need 350 to make it happen. I am hoping that once we get to 200, DMV will consider starting it anyway, however, we aren't there yet. Keep working your family and friends to send in. Although the deadline shows it has past, we can't do anything until we get the numbers. The deadline is when we get to 350.

SC just approved UT plates last fall. Both my cars renew in May and mine will carry the power T from now on. This has been in the works for several years here in SC but just recently had enogh commitments. I am so damn tired of tiger paws and chickens!

Same problem in North Carolina. The largest alumni assn. outside of Knoxville resides in Charlotte and we cannot get plates because apparently they don't care. We have the numbers just no dedication. My wife and I ordered our plates over a year ago but no one else seems to be on board.

Sad.

I find it hard to believe there are more UT alumni in Charlotte than in Chattanooga, Nashville, or even Memphis. And even if you meant out of state, a few years ago the AJC printed a story that said Atlanta was home to the largest SEC alumni groups outside of each schools home state except Arkansas. Maybe you meant per capita?

There are(in My opinion) more Georgia and Alabama fans in Chattanooga(I worked there for five years). When Alabama sucked those Bama fans were UGA fans.

The alumni association in Charlotte is larger than the alumni association in Nashville? I'm not sure that's right.

Also I heard a few years ago that every SEC school had it's largest out-of-state alumni association in Atlanta (I think the exception was Arkansas, whose largest out-of-state alumni base was in Dallas).

If there are 600 UT alumni in Central Virginia, I've got to believe there are at least that many across the state line from Johnson City. Come on Virginia, step up!

Yeah, I am sure Charlotte has a large alumni base, but it isn't bigger than Nashville or Atlanta.

The alumni base and alumni association aren't the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the Charlotte active alumni association is bigger- it's harder to find fellow alums farther from campus, so it might be necessary to go to a group thing. In Nashville you're probably running into Vol alums everywhere and might not need the benefits of the alumni association.

Here is an update on the license plates. We are at 150 and will try another big push during football season. The link is still the same - http://web.utk.edu/~utaa/email/110715-valicense2. Although, it says October 15, 2012 deadline, there is no real deadline, as we can't get the license plate until we get the 350 prepaid applications.

Please continue to spread the word, and if you want one, please send in your plate and don't wait for us to get to 350. We need you to get us to 350, or you will be waiting for eternity, while at the same time, getting upset at seeing Auburn or Florida plates in VA.

I would love to be able to get the University to send a mailer/postcard, along with the e-mail blasts, but budget prevents that at this time. I know there are over 600 alumni in the Richmond area alone that have not given there e-mail to the University. This doesn't count NOVA, Tidewater of SWVA.

As you know, we have been trying to get to 350 pre-paid applications. We have been stuck on 150 for the past six months. In discussing this issue with the University, we agreed to one more push to get us to the number.

The push will continue to December 1 of this year. At that time, if we don't make the 350, those that have already pre-paid will be refunded their money.

The website for the application can be found at http://web.utk.edu/~utaa/email/110715-valicense2

I will try to send out updates each week up until Dec. 1. Let's make this happen Virginia Vols.

Update on the drive of a Tennessee license plate in Virginia. We refunded the money to all those that pre-paid before Dec. 1 of last year. However, we haven't given up hope. We are currently only taking commitments to buy a plate.

Here is a refresher on what is going on:

-We need 350 pre-paid applications before DMV will start making the Power T plates.
-Currently, we are only taking commitments for plates (no money or applications).
-Our commitment list is now up to 266
-If/When we get to 350, further guidance will be sent to those who have made a commitment on how to proceed with money and applications.
-There is a link to UT license plate website, which in turn has many FAQ's - http://web.utk.edu/~utaa/email/110715-valicense2
-To commit, have a car licensed in VA and send an e-mail to richmond.va.vols@gmail.com
-Please spread the word to those that you think would want a plate in VA. Don't wait until they have been made, because if we don't get to 350, you will be waiting forever.

Visit our facebook page - Tennessee Vols License Plate for more updates as we go along.

This is going to happen, we just need your help.
