Considering that we have a game against a pretty darn good opponent coming up, I thought this at least needed to be on the front page. And welcome to the Hokie fans. You guys, as a group, may be the best group of opponent fans we've seen around here in a long time. I've seen alot of good discussion without alot of smack talk.
Pretty confident there hoss:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock: Awesome and thanks!! It will be great to break our bad record against the SEC in recent years. Thing is we get a bad rep for not beating SEC teams, yet the SEC teams that beat us beat all the other SEC teams as well.
Auburn 2004, LSU 2007 and Bama 2009 all either went undefeated or won the MNC. UGA 2006 is realistically the other team we should have beaten.
On yet another side note, I hope we do better in attendance than we think we will do. We brought good crowds to Atlanta twice this year, and it isn't easy to convince everyone to go down for a third after we lost the first two.

Q: What are your thoughts on facing Virginia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A bowl??
Eric Berry: Looking forward to it. It could be the start of us playing Va Tech every year. It could be a good matchup. They're right over the border. They're a good team. I actually played with Tyrod in the All-American game. I'm looking forward to this one. Now I'm playing against him.
Hmmm. . .

Thanks. I've read so much junk lately I can't remember what's what.Mike Hamilton and Jim Weaver (VT's AD) discussed this during their presser for the CFA bowl on Monday.
Basically, said the Bristol Bowl rumor of a few years ago was actually in the works. After a few conversations, according to Hammy, the people at BMS sort of never got back to anyone. It was a one time thing at the Speedway and fell through. The track infield has since been reconfigured and is no longer a possibility.
Tech fans like to promote the myth that UT refused to play them. Because it was coming from VT fans, most UT fans didn't give the myth the time of day. Frank Beamer commented that he never really saw how the thing was going to work because everyone would've needed binoculars to see the game.
Anyway, the ADs of both schools set the record straight this week. It WAS going to happen, both schools wanted it to happen, but it fell through. Money payout to each school was to be $20 million.
They also said they have been working at scheduling a regular season matchup between the schools at some point. Schedules are set for both schools for about the next decade. Unlikely to happen anytime soon in regular season.
The special teams has been discussed thoroughly on here and I think it's obvious Tech has the real advantage here.

I would agree that VT still has the advantage in the special teams department, but that is mainly bc UT's are so god awful. Tech's special teams live a lot on reputation these days. They aren't the dominant force they were thought to be in the early part of the decade. The Tech fans I know point to the ECU game last year as evidence of that fact.
I read something about them considering playing another game at a bigger venue in between both schools because the tickets were selling so fast for this match up. This of course would be out a ways in the future, if there is even anything to it.
Sorry I'm blowing up this board, but there are multiple good conversations going on here.
If VT and UT really want to play each other semi-regularly, both ADs could approach the Chick-fil-A Bowl people about working out multiple staggered appearances in the College Kickoff. That would be a great platform for the Vols as they return to national prominance, and hopefully the bad taste from this year's game against Bama doesn't linger too long in Jim Weaver's mouth.
VT's also been scheduling a lot of non-conference games at FedEx Field in DC, and that might be another great venue for a Hokie/Smokey showdown.
Yeah, you're right about BMS, just not set up for football. And does BMS have a jumbotron? Okay, you sold me, no BMS. Problem is Tennessee has no incentive to play at a neutral site because even in a pro stadium you guys lose seating capacity. But if your AD was willing to do it just for national publicity Hotlanta might be a good venue. It would also help both our teams compete with conference rivals in recruiting the Peach state. Our rivalry with GT might not be on the same level as yours is with the Dawgs, but with all the chop and crackback blocks the Jackets are doing under Paul Johnson it's heating up pretty quickly. It could be an awesome neutral-site barnstormer. Not at Bristol, though, ever. The players would all look like ants.
