the way i saw it. willingham/johnson on one side.. rogan/gaines on the other. and then u have vinson with gaines flemming evans fighting it out just to make it to pasadena. If he really is in the doghouse, then i can see it. HE is our BEST corner. Vinson needs to see the field

Based on what I've been hearing from players, Willingham is currently our best corner. Vinson is probably second.

Vinson wasn't even on defense last year until injuries forced him over there. Some people just need to quit worrying about things and let time sort them out for us.

I would disagree that he was our best corner last year. Right now, I'd put Willingham and Rogan at 1 and 2

Here is the opening game depth chart for the secondary from last season...

LCB: Antonio Gaines, Eric Berry, Dennis Rogan
RCB: Marsalous Johnson, DeAngelo Willingham, Art Evans
SS: Jarod Parrish, Nevin McKenzie, Antonio Wardlow
FS: Jonathan Hefney, Ricardo Kemp, Ja'Kouri Williams

I want competition on this team. If you want to give people the starting positions then aren't going to have a very competitive team in the first place. I'm as big a Vinson fan as anyone, but he still has to EARN it.

Vinson will be a starter halfway through the season, IMO. Maybe earlier. I thought Gaines would be starting across from Vinson this year, I'm not certain who is better than who. But I do know that Vinson SEEMS to be the best bet at CB. There are also reports that Willingham is playing fantastic. It will be interesting how much the rotation changes through the season.

Also, quick question for anyone. Is EJAW playing WR or LB?

Gaines should barely see the field compared to the other guys around him.

sorry, but Antonio Gaines is horrible. Never forgave him for letting DJ Hall make a catch he should have never even had a chance of making in 05

What examples can you provide that would lead anyone to believe something like this? Unless, of course, your expectations of what a lock down #1 corner are indeed just a Jonathan Wade type(who wouldn't have been a #1 on many top teams in the country). First of all his size- he's a good 6 foot which allows him to hang with the big receivers. I believe that he has excellent speed which lets him hang with the track stars in the sec and across the nation. he's very good in man to man, has good instincts, gets a great jump on the ball, maybe dropped too many picks, but those are still incompletions. I see him do very well in run support. lets see, big, strong, fast, athletic, physical. thats what i call a shutdown number 1 corner. i agree that wade wasnt a number 1 but he was our best corner his last two years here.

Vinson 'In Mix': Cornerback Brent Vinson can get back in the battle for a starting job at cornerback, provided he finishes summer classes on a high note.

"He's got some academic things he's working through," Fulmer said. "He's in the mix. He gets work with the twos and threes mostly. Certainly he'll have a chance, if he does all he's supposed to do, to get himself back in the mix as a starter."

Vinson, who started 10 games last fall, is listed third on UT's depth chart.

That play is burned into my brain very vividly. I think that if Jason Allen (6foot 2in) had been on DJ Hall that pass would have never been caught.
