I sat in N4 last night during the game. I never post stuff like this but had a few thoughts on the game last night and would like to see if the TV or talk gave different versions of what I thought.

  1. Roster – Hopefully the myth that we don’t have a roster capable of competing in the SEC is gone. We may not have the depth we need to win some but there is no excuse to not be competitive. Thus far we have fell victim to poor coaching that seems to be turning around with only a hiccup here and there.
  2. Officiating – was awful on both sides. But the personal foul on the QB hit in the 3rd was a turning point in the game. I don’t know if we would have won but, in the stadium, you felt the game change on that call. Even the Alabama fans around me laughed at that one.
  3. Targeting hit on Judy (I think) looked like the right call. The bigger issue to me was the DB was lined up 3 yards in the end zone. To me, if you press the LOS there, that play may have been avoided. Maybe they score on that play maybe not. It still resulted in a TD so it would have been no different. There was a lot of confusing in the stadium because they originally announced that they were reviewing the ball crossing the goal line, which it was very obvious it didn’t.
  4. Missed TD. Im not sure if it was JG or if BM was still in but the QB missed a wide-open receiver by about 8-10 yards that would have put us within 4. To me, that and the personal foul on 3rd down were the two plays that could have changed the game.
  5. 4th and goal. If CJP called a QB sneak after being stuffed 3 straight times, shame on him. If JG changed the play, shame on him. That was awful.
  6. Defensive alignment. Our Defense isn’t bad, but they have to work on alignment. There was a 3rd and 6 or 8 and a coach was yelling at players, the LB was looking at the sideline when the ball was snapped, and Alabama ran the ball right at him to convert the first down. I’ve already mentioned the alignment on Judy that led to the targeting. Bryce Thompson also missed a play due to alignment and CJP let him have it from the sideline. I didn’t like BT body language in response. To me, that kid is a punk that will probably not be on the team long term. Heck of a player, but he is going to struggle without a major attitude adjustment. The Najee Harris TD was awful too, not a single play ever looked at him as he walked in. There were also several plays where LBs were behind because they were trying to get others lined up right when the ball was snapped.
  7. Alabama fans…breaking from the stereotype, I had a great time. Was treated great by everyone, lots of good discussion during the game etc. I cheered loudly when the vols did good, sang rocky top etc and no one said a word to me. The on thing that bothered me was one fan told me “we need to put a hit out on 90 for hurting our QB” I replied, “only if we can do the same to the Alabama player that hurt our qb.” The guy said “Good Point” One guy lean over to me said “Youll never see a fanbase so happy that we make extra points” I replied “Oh It must be awful winning all those games but having an awful kicker.” The LED lights were cool, I guess. I did wonder if it was distracting to the players.
Overall a solid game last night that with a couple of things, could have been a lot different. If we are not competitive him every game the rest of the year we have coaching issues. I am still not solid on CJP, but at least its starting to show some promise.

JG went rogue. Watch the play...Trey Smith pulls and mauls his guy. Hand the ball off and the tailback walks in. Linemen don’t pull on quarterback sneaks. And JG was the one that over threw a wide open JJ. We left 21 points on the field. The refs to 7...

Thanks, I saw the play but the goal post blocked a lot of my view from the oline.

In regards to 7.... My buddy and I made our first trip to Tuscaloosa last night and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how we were treated. We walked around the tailgating for a few hours prior to kickoff and were given drinks on several occasions and treated very well. We had a few nasty things yelled at us but 99% of the Bama people were okay.

The atmosphere was pretty awesome. Though they totally over did it, the lights were pretty cool.

Pretty sure they had a toddler in charge of the lights. You know how a toddler flips the lights on and off repeatedly once they figure out what the light switch does? It was WAY overdone.

I’ve seen several post about the officiating being bad on both sides. I’m an orange homer and watch with orange glasses, so can anyone tell me which calls went against Alabama? Not trying to be an ahole, I would really like to know.

Those lights are super tacky. Red as hell. Leave it to Alabama to install rodeo lights in BDS. All they need now are some barrels and rodeo clowns.

Exactly! Not one penalty on Alabama was questionable nor did any of them help our drives or kill theirs because when they were flagged Tennessee was flagged on the very next play to negate it.

All of our major rivals treat us better now then they did in the mid 90’s to early 2000’s. I wonder what’s changed?

I don't remember any particular and the penalties on us where defiantly more impactful. I just remember watching, especially in the first half thinking the refs were ruining the game both way. It did seem like they called a couple on alabama that were not too impactfully, but almost like they were " trying to make it seem fair."

Thet missed a false start on the 1st TD run. They had several 15 yard PIs. Cant remember when, but thats still usually impactful for field position. Nothing questionable tho.

Yeah I have little doubt they wouldn’t have been as welcoming 20 years ago. Even still, I was surprise at how hospitable they were.

With that said, I want nothing more than to go back in a couple of years and be hated.

Number 3- just an excuse to give the replay bammer homers to get batuli tossed. Jeudy wasn't even close to the goal line when he got rocked by Batuli. Jeudy comes back in from a wicked hit and our qb maurer gets a weak hit and done. Just amazing.

Regarding the lights and if they were distracting, Saban said they ran the lights "at the right time".

I hope we have a cheap surprise for them next season. One time cow bells, perhaps?

I've seen them point to the missed call on an intentional grounding.
