I expect to win this game easily, but it is one of those trap style games. We win and everyone will say we should have, no big deal. But on the off chance we lose and it could hurt our momentum a great deal.

The key is going to be our OL, as in the rest of our season went. Games that our OL was healthy and performed and we saw flashes of brilliance. Games that our OL was banged up and tired and so did not perform well and we looked like a highschool team playing vs NFL teams.

We need 2 more recruiting classes with some solid 4* OL commits to build some true depth and talent. A 5* stud or two and we get into the playoffs..JMHO

I'd be surprised if it was an easy win for the Vols, but it wouldn't be the first time I was surprised by this Iowa team in a bad way.

This game will not be easy. Iowa is a solidly coached team. It will be a scratch and clawer type game that will be determined by turnovers.

We went 8-4 last year and then we were sitting at 7-3 when we lost a very close game to Wisconsin. They had to convert some huge 3rd downs and we were rolling if we just could have gotten the ball back. We were up on Nebraska 24-7 and then blew it in overtime. I will not make any excuses for the ISU and Minnesota losses. For some reason our hated rival ISU has our number under Ferentz and we just laid down and quit against Minnesota. My point is that we finished 7-5 and the record is what it is but we also could have been in the Big Ten title game, which is sad, but true.

That's all good, but we can say the same thing. We lost to Georgia and Florida by a combined, what? 3 points?

Really should've won both games, especially Florida.

Hawks2405 is fighting to see the silver lining. I respect and relate to that having tried to see something worth fighting for. From that video and the other Iowa posters, it looks like this will be a solid team that loses it's fight. Even great coaches can lose control of a team. See Parcels asking for a Terrell Owens removal.

Exactly. All the people who are saying things like "we should be beat them by at least 2 TDs, they haven't played anyone, etc" are the same goobers saying those things before the Missouri game.

Gonna be a close game, Iowa defense reminds me some of Mizzou, just hope they don't contain and sack Dobbs as many times as they did...

I have a lot of respect for the SEC and Tennessee is a program with rich tradition. Obviously, it's the toughest conference in the country and people that say differently are idiots.

Everyone of our fans that is sick of Ferentz is an idiot as well. There is a reason he was given the 2nd safest football contract behind Saban. He was coming off an 11-2 year where we won the Orange Bowl. We are Iowa. Make fun of our corn, hogs, flat landscape, yadda yadda yadda. We have a low population and we have another major university in our backyard in Iowa State. We have to recruit from outside our state which is always a challenge. We have to develop our players through the program. Our new football facility will help us recruit better but we were so far behind everyone else in terms of the college football arms race. It's truly amazing that Ferentz has accomplished what he has given the facilities he has to work with.

Ferentz believes in "ebbs and flows" in our program. We will be down for a few years and then we will have a couple of great years in terms of Iowa Football. We went 8-4 last year and then we were sitting at 7-3 when we lost a very close game to Wisconsin. They had to convert some huge 3rd downs and we were rolling if we just could have gotten the ball back. We were up on Nebraska 24-7 and then blew it in overtime. My point is that we finished 7-5 and the record is what it is but we also could have been in the Big Ten title game, which is sad, but true. Ferentz would be scary at a blueblood program and he has had the chance to leave many times but didn't.

We will come out and punch teams in the mouth on the lines. If you give Ferentz a month to prep for a bowl game we are not going to get blown out. The only two times in the last 16 years that we have been blown out in a bowl game was in 2002 against USC (Leinart and Bush) in the Orange Bowl and 2011 against Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl.

We have a decent track record against the SEC in bowl games with wins over Florida, LSU, crushed South Carolina, Missouri, etc. I honestly don't think that you will blow us out but that's my humble opinion. Iowa Bowl History, Scores, Results

Thanks for the insight, Hawkes. The Iowa fanbase has a proud history of winning football with coaches like Hayden Frye, one of my all-time favorites. I think this game will be a slug-fest in the trenches and our beloved Vols had better be prepared and ready to fight for 60 minutes; no let ups. Coach Ferentz may or may not be yall's guy, but, I think he'll have his team ready to play ours. Whomever wins, I think it will be close. Thanks, again, for such an informed post. Other than this Gator Bowl, the best of luck to the Hawkeyes in the future....

Iowa is not a pushover, UT will still need to bring their A-game. If UT can get some starters healed, we stand a good chance of winning, I hope UT and the fans don't look at Iowa as an easy team, they can play some football.

Go Vols!!

This... they have slipped up on some SEC teams in Florida bowls before. Kirk Ferentz is a solid coach and he will have his guys ready. Their problem this year has been the running game, which is uncharacteristic of them. GBO!

Tell me about it...like we were going to whip the SEC East champ as if they were a fluke. Never did understand folks thinking this.

Man that video was terrible. I couldn't watch the whole thing. You could practically feel the cloud of despair coming from the reporters

You sure it wasn't the pit of despair?

HA!!! Their message board sounds just like ours. The sunshine pumpers are making excuses and preaching "realistic" expectations (which translate just be happy to be mediocre). The "Nega-Hawks???" are really calling for change. It is comical how similar the boards are. And you thought Volnation was unique.

Well, to be honest, the vibe I get from Hok fans around here is that it isn't the losing that bothers them so much, but losing to teams like Iowa State, which would the equivalent of us getting beat by Vandy, or getting crushed by Minnesota, which would be like if Florida beat us by 3 touchdowns.

For the most part, they know who they are, but they're still proud, and getting beat in rivalry games they way they are hurts their little pride. The obvious solution? ***** about it on the internet.

We are Iowa. Make fun of our corn, HOGS, flat landscape, yadda yadda yadda. We have a low population
On mobile so it's too much of a hassle to bold the word, "hogs", but I just wanted to make it known that we love pork down here too...country ham, bacon, fried pork chops, sausage, bbq, etc. And that's coming from a Tennesseean who's not much of a country boy :p . Good post but I just had to clarify that our love for the pig is shared.

And I've always respected Iowa's football program and am excited about this matchup. To be honest, and I truly mean this with no disrespect, I wouldn't classify Iowa as a 1st tier program like Tenn, Nebraska, Bama, Michigan, USC, and the likes, but they are definitely a solid second tier program (Washington, Colorado, Cal, WV). It seems that most Iowa fans realize this rather than have little man syndrome about it like some other fan bases, *cough*vandy*cough*.

Yall seem to be a very respectful, educated fan base, and I'd like to thank the Iowa fans here on Volnation for giving us yall's perspectives on the game and Iowa's squad/play style. And ignore the trolls like Volololol...I'm all for some good trash talk and mudslinging leading up to the game but there's no need to be an ******* to the Iowa posters who are visiting the board.

With that said, Go Vols! I hope we send the Hawkeyes back to the cornfields with a loss. I think this will be a close game the whole way through with the Vols pulling out a 27-20 victory to finally get a winning season after too many losing seasons in a row.

LOL @ Des Moines...desperately trying to be a real city, and constantly failing!

Smh. Have you ever been there? It's actually a great city. I swear sometimes I wonder if some of our fans have ever been anywhere outside the state of TN.
