Vickers is right!

Vickers understands what many on here don't; you have to build up a team to have a shot at winning a championship. We all agree that Saban is the best CFB coach and Bama has the most talent but they have only won the playoffs once despite going all 3 years. All 3 of those teams were championship level but that didn't mean they were going to win. We have to build up to that level, which means recruiting, putting guys into the NFL, breaking losing streaks, creating winning streaks, having quality back ups, getting the correct coaches in place, etc. Once all that is done you still have to compete against teams that have done the same thing. Oh and throw in a ton of luck with recruits because you just don't know how a kid will develop. 2 years ago during recruiting we all thought if Jennings doesn't win the QB job then he'll be a good safety. Now we're 2 months away from him being our #1 receiver.

To sum it all up, once a team gets to the point where they reload not rebuild every year then they have a shot at championships. I think that year is either 2017 or 2018. Replace Butch and it pushes it to 2021 or 2022

I think this season will be Butch's best coaching job yet. I think he beats every East team this year too. This staff upgrading on the defensive side will get him over the hump...that has been the weak link in games late all along...JMO.

The FAHR BUTCH crowd won't be happy with this post. Watch out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There isn't many other coaches out there, that could do much better. JMO
Being a 5th year senior Vickers is a very credible witness. Being an actual player that has been there since day one basically, he has a unique perspective. So yeah, when a player like that talks I am gonna listen.

He came in as the first water was put to the flames of the dumpster fire. So if anyone knows how much the program has changed it would be him. if anyone represents the progress this team has made it would be him. From a guy that was redshirted his freshman year to the most consistent DT we have had the past 3. Vickers has the resume to speak the words and be heard.

Sorry, but finishing 9-4 two seasons in a row is not improvement. Especially when that second 9-4 season came with losses to Vandy and USC.

Apparently you really like to suffer. Last years is over, gone, in the past. Try looking forward and maybe you will enjoy this Fall's games. If not, so be it. One never catches up be living in the past.

I watched the TAM game again the other day... that was pretty inexcusable too. That Vol team committed the most turnovers of any Vol team in 20 or 30 years.

He said what players say. There were players when Dooley's termination was a foregone conclusion that publicly said there wasn't a staff in the country they'd rather play for.

As for the second comment... Not many "better"? Maybe. As good? Probably quite a few.

Why would you consider firing a coach that's been here for half a decade, has stability in the program & marked improvement throughout his tenure, for another coach that is "As Good"? That makes no sense!

Witch Doctor still remember when Ruckers ex(beth) exposed him for doing on the old Govols sites. Then I busted him on here a few years back. Hes a horrible troll.
He hates the Vols teams/coaches/fans and thinks hes smarter because hes a Ohio state fan and our dumb fans give him money for it ..does anyone think the placement of Jones comments and Vickers were an accident. nope to get a swipe and chuckle how dumb he thinks we are..she said he thinks and making these sites so negative, Vols will pay to get away from the trolls
Beth said so....!

Some on here need to stop living in the past and move on to the present and future.
There will not be a new coach for the 2017 season. Time to get behind this team and support them in the coming year.

I'm not totally against firing Butch but please have a really good plan for his replacement. The "anyone would be better" talk is just insane. The real question is not should Butch be fired but who could Tennessee get to come that would be definitively better. Unless you got someone like Bob Stoops waiting in the wings then firing Butch is just nonsense. My preference would be to see how this new staff works out. I think there is a chance for this group of coaches and players to be really good.

The comment was that no one could have done better. My response was that there were a few that could have and many that could have done as well.

As for the rest of your comment, you don't know if a guy is better until you try him. Once you KNOW the guy you have is middling... there's no reason to keep him. You KNOW he's not getting you to championships. You DON'T yet KNOW what the next guy can do.

"Marked improvement"? If your standard is the lowest point in the history of UT football... then yeah it is an improvement. If you are talking about the historic quality of UT football... not even close to a "marked improvement".

So.... once again for anyone who has ever told me that "no one" argues "for" mediocrity... make sure you read the post I was responding to. He's perfectly satisfied with the "stability" that has been established in the 2nd or 3rd tier of the SEC.
