Vic Wharton...nothing new just concerned

Does Wharton have the talent to start for any other SEC team or play at the next level?

He's still very young and he has talent and lots of potential.

How hard he works to make the best of his potential is all up to him and the quality of coaching he'll get.

What anyone makes of themselves is mostly up to them.

Time will tell about this young man.

Whatever happens I still wish him all the best.

When a starter or heavy contributer decides to transfer I'll be concerned. Wharton is concerning but only bc he's a legacy. But the way this staff is recruiting I think we'll see plenty more transfers.

Saban/bama has 5 or 6 a yr, all of them 4 and 5* players that the rest of us are happy to have and no one seems to care. Its part of signing 32 kids one yr. You got to in order to get your numbers up but everyone knows Tn isn't going to have 32 seniors in '17.

Wharton was never going to be a significant players here, Nothing more than a role player. Some kids cant handle that. They've been the 'straw that stirs the drink" their whole life and now they are just a #. Its an adjustment.

I assumed he'd slide in as a KR and be a solid special teams player.

According to this from TOS Wharton is gone. This was an article breaking down offensive positions from all of Butch's signing classes.

Non-factors: Paul Harris left the program after the 2013 season and eventually landed at Louisville. Ryan Jenkins has one career catch to his credit (for six yards) in two seasons at Tennessee, including a redshirt freshman year in 2013, and Vic Wharton unexpectedly left the program last month after a freshman season where he made two starts, played in nine game and had five catches for 64 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown in the TaxSlayer Bowl on a halfback pass from Marlin Lane.

Awesome, another "Vic Wharton is transferring" thread. I find it telling that this close to NSD someone would choose to beat this dead horse instead of focusing on the outstanding kids that will be coming in the next 24 hours.

I am looking forward to some injured players being back next year and added to the new ones coming in. Bates and Smith especially....

The more and more you read the comments on Wharton, the more you see that this decision has less and less to be about Football. If he were to stay at U.T there could be a chance that he would be taken out by a sniper during warm-ups.

I laughed....yes....out loud

Chatt420 no do not be worried, at least not for the team. You can worry for VW because he has things he has to work out. Nothing went wrong at all. I do not try to post as an insider but this is one thing I do have some knowledge of personally. He is a kid, like so many his age, with a lot of things going on in his life. I will leave it at that. But you can feel comfortable that the issues are not team oriented but more personal based. There is a poster over on 247 SmyrnaVol or something like that who also had a pretty good feel for the situation.

I wish people would realized hat there can be a lot of other reasons for a player to not work out other than he doesn't like the coach or is unhappy with the team. Like homesick, girls, grades, drugs, you name it. The same issues arise for the general student population too.

I'm not saying any of these apply to any particular player, but we need to chill when we hear about a player leaving the program.

I liked Vic Wharton from what I saw. I was at the Taxslayer Bowl and saw the amazing catch from Lane. I would have never guessed that he was unhappy at UT. Wish the kid the best of luck wherever he lands. Would have liked to have him at UT, but it is what it is!

Sadly he knows he's not gonna get much PT.
North, Von, Pig, Malone, PW, J Smith, etc are better

Forgive me, but how can he "know" that?

1) Look at what happened with the WR corps this year. And he did wind up getting some significant playing time at the end, especially against Iowa. How many freshmen, by percentage, ever get that opportunity?

2) Provided you bring some talent to the table, which Wharton does (he's fast and has some great moves in the open field), playing time can be earned with some hard work, patience and a good attitude --- in other words a little faithfulness.

Not saying this is the case with Vic, I hope it's not, but the trend among young players nowadays is to pout and start talking about a transfer if they don't see the playing field right away.

In short, you can't keep a good man down. Also, good things (generally) come to those who wait --- and work hard --- and keep the faith.

But a sense of entitlement can be a cancer.

Hate to see one of our best recruiters from last year's class go, but if he doesn't feel like he's gonna get enough playing time, can't really fault him for it.

I fault him...this was a so-called dream come true for him yet he's going to.transfer instead of busting his tail to get more PT. Players have roles and he needs to work hard and find his then make the most of any opportunity he gets.

Nope. Not in this day and age. You think you're getting swallowed up by a depth chart? Go somewhere where you can better showcase your talent to NFL scouts. He's not getting paid to sit on the bench.

That was a pretty catch. I recall it being kinda over the shoulder and pretty much right in stride, wasn't it?

I would love for VW to stay with us and make TD catches like that a few more times.

If he ends up at another school next year, that will be 7 schools in 8 years going back to middle school. I'm sorry, but that is a trend. I hope he can find some place where he is truly happy and stick somewhere.

If Wharton decides to go to Graduate school, and if you count kindergarten and elementary. Then that would be 9 schools in 16 years. Now that's just ludicrous. Somebody needs to stop this kid, he would be completely out of control at that point. This is the reason I only deal with people who go to and stay at David Lipscomb. They turn out to be all around better individuals.

You're right. Why, who amongst us didn't go to 3 different high schools and 2 universities over a 6 year period? Nothing to see here.

What ever the case , I thank Vic Wharton for being instrumental in pulling the program out of the depths of hell. His tireless recruiting on social media was huge. He was one of last years' Butchers.
