I know there is already a thread regarding rumors of players transferring but... Wharton is different from any of the others. Vic championed his class like no other recruit I can remember. He helped us land guys like tkjr, Hurd, and Malone. It's just different hearing rumors related to him than a guy like Sawyers or Hendrix (whom are both crazy to leave with all the momentum we have). And he's a legacy! He got playing time as a true freshman even though was injured a large part of the year. And they still had a special trick play drawn up for him that resulted in a td in our bowl game.
What could have went so wrong? And should we be worried?

Mods I know there is alre ady a thread regarding transfer rumors and this might just be headed for. Mergerville but I think it's a little different scenario than the others...It'd be like Mckenzie deciding to transfer at this time next year

It'd be like Zach Stewart transferring. Not Kahlil. Kahlil is a top 5 player in the country.

Nobody wants Vic to leave, but it's not like Barnett or Hurd deciding to leave. If he wants to go and feels so inclined, thank you to him for his one year here and his love for UT. This isn't any different than Sawyers wanting to leave to me.

Sadly he knows he's not gonna get much PT.
North, Von, Pig, Malone, PW, J Smith, etc are better

I'm pretty sure no one has confirmed any of this. One of our "insiders" started a rumor and became the "source" cited by a local writer.

Hate to lose him. Kid could have helped and did down the stretch when he got over the injury bug. anywhere he goes he will have to battle for playing time. And if the rumors are true about him not liking to be yelled at. Switch to golf.

I could honestly see him being a great receiver though if he stuck around till his senior season though. North, Von, Pig and Smith would all be gone by then and I could see him being like a wes welker/zach rogers kinda receiver. I feel like he should stick it out.

CBJ has said he wants 9 to 12 WR to play. With at least 3 in every play, there's a lot of snaps to get. I feel Vic is not confident in his ability to be the man and play significantly. That means we have a lot of talent here because Vic has talent.

So, as I wish he would stay, I see this as good news.

If VW doesn't want to give his all to Tennessee anymore.. Hard to convince him otherwise. He should be patient IMO in year two while working hard and competing. If his heart isn't in it at UT for whatever reason, then maybe best to find a place he feels comfortable at.

@JimmyHyams: Vols not expected to go thru FB spring practice: QB Nathan Peterman, WRs Vic Wharton and Ryan Jenkins, DL Michael Sawyers, DB Riyad Jones

Not totally confirmed, but pretty heavy smoke. *I pulled this out of the rumor thread.

I like Vic but with the way CBJ is recruiting and as loaded at wideout we are rn I think we could use that scholarship to upgrade other positions. Would love to see a 5* ot or lb put his scholarship to use. Butch has me excited idk about yall. Sky's the limit.

He doesn't seem to think so-- and therein lies the problem. Leaders don't talk about leaving; they work on getting better and motivate others to do the same. I wish he'd stay the course, but it's not looking likely.

I love the high level of talent also but I believe you need a little diversity on the team. You need some superstars but you also need some glue type guys. Guys with great leadership that live and breath the team. And I truly thought vic was that guy. He had a huge impact on our class. And he's no slouch talent wise himself. He has great speed and is very quick and shifty...Wes Welker type.

Glue guys huh?

Jonathan Johnson, Alex Ellis, Wolf and even Josh smith to an extent.

Why does every white WR get compared to other great white WRs? Like in the 90s, if you were a good receiver that happened to be white, you were the next Wayne Chrebet or Don Bebe sp?

Because they are so few and far between lol. Won't any good, tall, athletic ''black'' golfer in the future be compared to tiger?

Ok. Good point. Maybe we already have some of those type guys. Especially Josh Smith. Hes from tn. Although I don't think he quite gets the credit for being the athlete he is. That guy is a baller. It's just that he's an average sized white guy playing wr.
