A guy who literally spent 2 years working hard for the Vols, only to feel that it was no longer the right place for him, should be thanked for his service and wished well, not harassed for not working more for you more.

Amen, brother.
This kid worked almost as hard as the coaching staff on last year's class and now some are lining up to throw him under a bus.

You can't run from problems be they in or out of football. I hear it's not football related regardless I hope the young man finds peace.

His closet must be filled with lots of team jackets, tees, hats, etc. Wish the youngster well, but he should stay. :whistling:

I can't help but wonder what is going through that young man's head. Kudos to him for bringing together the 2014 class, but he is leaving at a time when the possibilities for this team in the next couple of years are endless. Good luck to him.

He was a big fish in a small pond in a high school that played very poor competition. Thanks for playing though Vic. He was an overrated 4 star, but did help us gain momentum in recruiting. Have fun at UTC.

If I understand the situation correctly from what others are saying, Vic wants to be the big fish in the pond. But also wants the attention the big fish gets in the form of NFL scouts and big headlines.

He's likely not going to get that kind of attention at an FCS school like UTC.

As usual, a kid is deciding that he would like to look at going to another school and VN responds with all kinds of presumptions and judgements. Let's just wish the kid good luck wherever he lands. He deserves to be happy about his situation whether it be in Knoxville or somewhere else. Good luck, Vic

I think it's because so many fans were so proud of this "legacy" class (which VW was a huge part of) and looked at this class as the turning point for the program.

When reality set in and a few of those players left or are looking to leave (for whatever reason) then the "fanatic" has to justify why it's happening.

I just find the rollercoaster of emotion on here amusing. These HS kids go from being VFL's, BOOOM's, etc. to don't let the door hit you on the way out. These "fans" need to realize these are just kids that are being thrown on a very big stage. Some can handle it and others can't .

These are young kids. There are a million different things that could be driving Vic to explore other options. I wish him the best wherever he ends up at.

I feel the problem is that a lot of players have been "The Man" since childhood. Now, being on a team where everyone has been the man is difficult. Your star status quickly becomes average. This doesn't sit well, and some can't get used to the idea. In there eyes, they deserve better, but the coaches see otherwise. There lies the dilemma.

I think both have seen the writing on the wall that it would be hard to get significant playing time here unless there is injuries. Wharton got in but it took a devastated WR corp to get down to him. As difficult as it was this year to get PT there will never be less talent and depth on this roster. I wish Jenkins and Wharton the best wherever they go but likely they would have been recruited over here.

Wharton's motivation to leave stems from Butch Jones lying to him about a few things, according to him.

He supposedly was "promised" number 3 but they gave it to Malone.

I'm sure playing time is all part of this.

But according to folks close to Vic, it was a multitude of unfulfilled promises from Butch..............

Everything you just said is exactly what I meant by "something is fishy".

I say it's fishy because:
1. Vic is known as a hard worker, even throughout the season he was praised for his work ethic. Usually a kid like that is praised by his coaches, it's hard to see he didn't get along with his position coach.

2. Playing time is about the only reason I could think of, but usually the coach will come out and say they will transfer for more playing time.

3. He isn't a regular "kid". He's grown up in and around Knoxville. He helped put together the 2014 class. He was praised by Butch Jones for his work ethic on and off the field.

4. Vic has wanted to be a Vol all his life. He gets his first TD, is super excited about, and then all of the sudden decides he doesn't like being a Vol?

I'm not a skeptic, I'm a realist, there's a difference.

Diamond Deshields transferred from UNC to the LVs because she said she didn't like the campus life in Chapel Heel, which could mean a number of things. Who knows? But VW's desire to transfer may have nothing to do with football.

Well, in all fairness, that is just one side of the story.

I'm sure none of you people in this thread have ever felt dissatisfied with your job to the point you left for a different one.

I am not surprised that he is leaving. I met the guy before the season started, and he simply was not big enough. I am 5'10" and I was noticeably looking down on him and he didn't have any mass on him to supplement his small frame. I met Devrin Young before he started college too and although Devrin was even shorter than Wharton, he was a lot wider and thicker (no homo). He probably is an amazing athlete, but just doesn't have the necessary ingredients to be a successful college football player IMHO.
