Ok guys, I have seen the moans and groans and I want to give my 2 cents...
Let me preface this by: I am VFL as much as the next guy, but I am realistic, and I am looking at this from an outside perspective...
Dooley can not get this turned around...I have lost faith on him...Now is it possible he could turn this team into a 9 win team? Of course its possible, but I dont think he does! This game was a MUST WIN for him! Looking at our schedule, we all said he has to beat one of the big 3 - UF, UGA, or UA...We let this one slip from our grasp!
I dont know all the numbers but I do this: Dooley is O-fer against ranked teams...The only SEC wins Dooley has is against Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Ole Miss...Unacceptable as a UT fan...Did Dooley come into a bad situation? Yes he did, but this is his 3rd year and he needs a miracle to last the season and if he comes back and wins one of the big 3 games, then I will retract my thoughts!! He has just not shown to me that he can win and win big in this league! No halftime adjustments, bad play calling, etc...
With the talent on this team, we should have beat Florida Saturday night...I was there! I saw firsthand what happened...We played an excellent first half and pretty good half of the 3rd quarter. But when UF came back and tied it at 20, we fell apart and laid down and QUIT!
Now to Tyler Bray...Does he have a rocket for an arm? Yes! Does he have NFL potential? Yes! Does he have the leadership qualities that is needed from a SEC starting QB? NO! He puts up a great stat line when playing weaker opposition, but has yet to play a good game and put up big numbers against a quality SEC defense! Heck he hasnt even played Alabama yet as a starting QB! But in my eyes, until he puts up one of those eye popping stat lines against a legit defense, he is overrated! And doesnt have the leadership qualities to be a top draft pick! When we got the ball back after going down 14, I said this right here will determine if we can stay in this game and make a run and what did we do? We go 3 and out just like that!
Now is it just on Bray and Dooley? NO its a team game but to be successful in this game, you need to have a good QB and coach and ATP neither is where they need to be! Also its going to be a long season when we dont have a kicking game...How many times did we have to go for it on a 4th and long b/c we dont have a kicker that is mentally able to produce??
I made my first trip to Neyland this past weekend and while the atmosphere is unreal and the sea of orange is an amazing sight to see, I left disappointed b/c we QUIT and let this game go!
