Hobby is currently serving as DL Coach at Clemson after a few seasons with Cutcliffe at Duke.

Hayworth looks like he could be a hidden gem (translation: cheaper and easier to hire). He is currently at Southwest Baptist University (?) in Bolivar MO. Bio (look here) looks interesting to my admittedly untrained eye. If he can recruit, even better.

It would be nice to bring more VFL back home.

I edited OP to add Tracy Haworth - a more risky choice. Clearly Hobby would be a better (safer) option.

He is from my city here in birmingham. would be a good recruiter in this area and there is a butt load of talent in alabama! Get Hobby and Go Vols!

We dont need to hire a Tennessee guy if he is not the best qualified. We can do much better than Hobby.

Dont get me wrong I love him but this is business.

Al Wilson for linebackers coach anyone? No matter the jokes I say that would be an outstanding hire. Great college player, great pro player, and a great personality to boot. This guy eats and breathes football and competition. Won't take crap from players and will recruit nicely.

Get the best coaches regardless of where they played their college football. Inbreeding is not the best route to a great staff.

Remind me again how much coaching experience he has.

The same amount Chuck Smith had I believe. Chuck's problem was not that he could not coach. It was that he was slightly off:)

Al's personality is way different but just as competitive.

We could sure use a few that would be more loyal to the program -- independent of any head coach.

I can tell you all this: Tracy Hayworth, Marion Hobby, and Tracy Rogers were all quality guys when I knew them back in the day.

.

Al didn't get his degree and therefore can not be employed
by UT in a coaching role. ...I do think he would be a good
coach though.

So hire him as a GA while he completes his degree. Simple. And yes they can hire a GA without a degree. I was hired as one at UT while still working on my undergrad degree.

They hired a HC in baseball without a real degree btw.

Make it part of his contract that his degree must be completed within x amount of time. No worries.

skeeter had this to say about the replacement options last night in the recruiting forum...

Steele, Hobby, and Nix are some names to keep an eye on, im sure more names will surface. Losing Sirmon hurt more than losing Lance from a recruiting stand point, Sirmon was involved with kids all over the country, not just kids close to knox.

That is a 'take" on all three of Skeeter's. If we could get 2 and then nail down the ST the staff will be in good shape. With a running game scheme change and Pittman as a real O-line coach I still think Chaney can get the offense churning some big scores.

I am more optimistic on Dooley's tenure now that a voice of reason and authority is in the AD chair. As a HC you are only as good as your roster and coaching staff. Especially when your HC is a CEO type with no expertise as a coordinator. Think Les Miles and Fulmer. Chavis bailed both of them out. Cut bailed Fulmer out on offense. Without Chavis and Cut he would not have survived 3 years, much less 15 years.

I always liked Marion Hobby and I would like to see us pull someone from The Clemson staff to learn how they made that big turn around.

Agreed. The only concern is whether Dabo's spot looks more secure than Dooley's and if so, why would he make a lateral move here (other than money, which would be short term if CDD is let go)?

He was a coke head too. That was a problem.

What's Scott Hall been doing these days? Besides getting drunk and eating. Damn I was really wanting an outsiders reunion.
