Excellent article. Had no idea of his family background before reading this.
I sat the bench while his father starred for Lincoln County High in the mid eighties. Not as good as his son, but obviously a very good player, person and even better father. Through all the ups and downs, I had faith in JJ and still believe he will have a long prosperous nfl career. Great story

Thanks for that. I have a lot more faith in JJ based on what that article says about his father.

Sometimes it only takes one guy to have enough passion to get pissed off with losing and crappy coaching for things to turn around. After the lack of passion and competive drive last year, I’m sure Pruitt welcomes someone who took it personally and wants to put a stop to getting their tails whipped.

Maybe not the best decisions, but can't blame the kid with Lyle & his sorry group called a "coaching staff". They probably could've learned a thing or two from Jauan's intensity and passion to be good.
Happy for the kid and excited for the rest of his time here! GBO

He likely stated, (in bizarre manner), the same feelings most of the players were enduring at that time.....frustration.

I agree with many here. Young and talented student athlete makes a couple game winning catches, lots of wow press, then injuries, things off and on field that were negative wow. You could replace student athlete with college student, enlistee, etc., and write the same story. Some change, improve, mature, and succeed. Some not so much. I hope the last two years have hardened this time and they are determined to fight thru the tough times this year and succeed. Jauan inluded.

I'm a whole-person concept type of guy, giving JJ an opportunity to redeem himself is the right thing to do.

But as George Bush said “There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”

Who?

Wow! Just wow, IMO many of his detractors here on VN owe this young man a very serious apology.

For what? He acted like an entitled child and is lucky to be wearing Orange right now. Bring "emotional" doesn't give you a free pass to act out and embarrass everyone connected to UT.

He got his second chance. Hope he makes the best of it, but in no way do any VOL fans need to apologize to him for an incident he brought down on his self.

I will respectfully disagree with you. I have a brother-in-law who is absolutely the most competitive person I know but has allowed that to spill over into ever area of his life. Its actually been ugly at times even though he was a great athlete. In JJ's case...no reasonable person would think after the video he released he should still be around the program...no one...and I THINK.. only time will tell...JJ has learned a HUGE life lesson and I and thrilled he was given a second chance WITH CONDITIONS otherwise no lesson would have been learned probably......never, ever confuse competitiveness with responsibility or character...EVER...its not the same thing..and some of the most competitive people I've been around have also been the most controlled, responsible folks I know...One good friend is a former All American and Outland Trophy winner and competitive like crazy...but he's also the most gentle, kind hearted, controlled person I know...I don't think anyone here will be apologizing to JJ...JMO...

I stood stone-like at midnight, suspended in my masquerade
I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch
I strolled all alone through a fallout zone and come out with my soul untouched
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, but when they said, "Sit down, " I stood up
Ooh...growin' up
The flag of piracy flew from my mast, my sails were set wing to wing
I had a jukebox graduate for first mate, she couldn't sail but she sure could sing
I pushed b-52 and bombed them with the blues with my gear set stubborn on standing
I broke all the rules, strafed my old high school, never once gave thought to landing
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, but when they said, "Come down, " I threw up
Ooh...growin' up
I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere, and you know it's really hard to hold your breath
I swear I lost everything I ever loved or feared, I was the cosmic kid in full costume dress
Well, my feet they finally took root in the earth, but I got me a nice little place in the stars
And I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car
I hid in the mother breast of the crowd, but when they said, "Pull down, " I pulled up
Ooh...growin' up
Ooh...growin' up

'Guess you and I are different from most folks; at least in their perfect little mental worlds. Stubborn old me? I had to grow up gradually...wasn't born mature. Hey. At 67, I'm still learning from my mistakes, descending just back to some very recent ones, and going way back to some ridiculous blunders I made a long, long time ago. For those judging young men (and teenagers are just children, believe me), I'll just smile...at worst roll my eyes or shake my head...recognizing that I'd be an adversely evil hypocrite if I tossed even a pebble at J.J., or conversely, at those faithful Volnational buddies o'mine who are still experiencing lots of growing pains; speaking out with righteous indignity about some painful faux pas that young man released; just a couple that were initiated merely from an adolescence-induced inability to rein in well-intentioned frustrations. For the older farts who, even at a more mature stage of their lives, are so judgmental about J.J., et al. Grow up yourselves. GBO! and Go J.J.!

He should be grateful that Home and staff did not burn a season of eligibility over the final game of the season

I want nothing but the best for him. He’s a gamer and although I didn’t care for his profanity filled tirade, we all felt the same way so I couldn’t disagree. Not to mention, he’s done everything asked of him to redeem his spot. Hard not to like a guy who is a good player and really wants to be here.

Just go back and read many of the things written here on VN about JJ returning. Lots of emotional outbursts about his emotional outburst at the time are NOT where I view the apologies are needed. Just go back, look for yourself, terms like "cancer" references to "drug use" all sorts of pure negative speculation about a young man and his character that turned out not to be true at all. People smeared him with falsehoods, those are the VN posters IMO after having read this article that need to apologize if they have a conscience at all. Of course lots of folks cannot ever bring themselves to apologize for anything, seeing it as some type of weakness when anyone does, consequently they can't, and sleep well at night. I'm just not built that way personally.

He kinda set himself up for that. It's just the way it is when you put your business on social media.

Volly. I do not disagree with your post. But I see this in 2 parts. There was the initial goofball reaction he put out on social media. He deserved the blow back he got including his dismissal. That was part 1. However, his wanting to be returned to the team and remain a Vol and be a player again. That was Part 2. The blow back and what many posted at that point and afterward about his character is where many posters need to catch a conscience IMO.

I understand where you're coming from. If the health of the entire program was better, he might've been given more benefit of the doubt? But all he really gave everybody was a smart mouth, and the fact he wasn't gonna listen to his coaches (ex ga game).

I am really glad to have him back though!!!

So it was the redshirt decision instead of letting him play against Vanderbilt that got him irked and not the "so called" demand to play QB in the final games?

I don’t know if I fall into the “detractor” or supporter category. I fully backed Hoke for kicking him off the team for showing his azz, but I also fully supported him getting a second chance. Ruling please.
