Very disturbing...what kiffin didnt say

Bailiff: "All rise for the jury".

(Jury shuffles in.)

Judge: "You may be seated. Mister/Madam Foreperson, has the jury reached a verdict?"

Foreperson: "No your honor, we haven't. The jury is divided. Those with one or fewer degrees vote one way, and those with two or more degrees vote the other. We are definitely at an impasse."

Judge: "In that case, I have no alternative except to declare a mistrial. Court stands in recess."
I really hope that was a quick exercise for you.

I have to say im almost offended that not 1 time in the press conference did i hear clk say that we are going to be competing for championships.

I seen where he said that he wants tennessee kids helping win championships for the state of tennessee. that was when he was selling you guys on how good of a recruiter he is. When he took questions and was specifically asked about his expectations, what his direct answer to that question??? not during his opening remarks ok. im talking about when HE WAS ASKED ABOUT HIS EXPECTATIONS.

Betsy backpeddler. :)

In all seriousness, a person cannot promise results in this profession. They can promise excellent service, diligent and well-planned recruiting, accurate evaluation of talent (within reason), quality instruction, proper emphasis on character, strategic game planning, et cetera. Kiffin is no dummy. I prefer a guy who promises what he can deliver, as opposed to a guy who sells snake oil and miracles.

Each time I read this thread, this keeps popping up in my mind.:crazy::crazy:
Crompton goes pro??
is any one else concerned that jonathon crompton may decide to go pro if he has a very good season. He already has an nfl caliber arm and definately has the size that pro scouts are looking for. If he throws somewhere around 3 thousand yards with a good completion percentage and a good touchdown/interception ratio, he definately would be on the radar. now i do not think that this is gonna be the case, but every year there are players who kinda come out of nowhere and display enough to make the jump. IF he does go pro, is nunez our starter next year??

What is killing people is that He won't guarantee A SEC championship next year. No quarterback no offensive line. I would think He is pretty smart not to.

It will take a little time to turn things around.

Absolutely. A lot quicker than reading the thread. I do have to admit to enjoying the banter. Great stuff.

Sorry it took some time to respond. Work somehow got in the way.
good. I didn't want to think you made much effort in generating that little skit.

uhhh...Switzer has great results in both.

Switzer lived off of Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys team for a couple of years. Nevertheless, they got progressively worse each year that he was there until he eventually ran them into the ground. Switzer sucked as an NFL coach.

So you're basically wanting the guy to promise championships? This post fails miserably

Can anyone tell me who promised a championship when they took the job?

that's why I said "great results."

With all of this unwarrented, self-promoting degree BS talk, I am reminded of a great movie line....

"I know Tae Kwon Do"

" and I know whop your a$$"

I think it was "Diary of an Angry Black Woman".

But as I may be mistaken, let me check with my lawyer.

For that matter, when was the last time Pat Summit promised a Championship? She has a better chance than most of making such claims.

Thank the Lord I just read where Kiffin is actually going to recruit from within Tennessee!!!!! If he does that we're going to win games since Tennessee grows some of the best players out there. Ever wonder why Alabama is doing so great this year? Alabama has 3 outstanding players that come from Tennessee. Florida has some as does Georgia. If we had them playing here Fulmer would most likely still be Head Coach. Since Fulmer has been here most good players from Tennessee have played for teams other than the Vols. That has always irked me to no end, and a big reason I'm so glad Fulmer is gone, baby, gone!

Conventional wisdom says Tennessee has to recruit nationwide because there aren't very many D1 caliber football players in Tennessee.:dunno:

LSU Tigers (Southeastern Conference) (2000–2004)
2000 LSU 8–4 5–3 3rd - West W Peach — 22
2001 LSU 10–3 6–3 1st - West W Sugar † 8 7
2002 LSU 8–5 5–3 1st - West (t)[16] L Cotton — —
2003 LSU 13–1 8–1 1st - West W Sugar † 1 2
2004 LSU 9–3 6–2 2nd - West L Capital One 16 16
LSU: 48–16 30–12
Alabama Crimson Tide (Southeastern Conference) (2007–present)

I have to say im almost offended that not 1 time in the press conference did i hear clk say that we are going to be competing for championships. In fact, when asked about expectations, he said something along the lines of the wins will come in time. How about making a statement to the country and letting every recruit out there that we expect to win championships here at tennessee. Somehow he manages to call out urban meyer and florida but doesnt have the guts to not accept losing.

It sounds like clk is thinking this is more rebuilding than refining and doesnt think were gonna compete for the sec next year. I dont like that right from the gate. I think today was the day to make a statement to the whole country that Tennessee is coming. Instead we got somebody who seemed scared to put his neck on the line

Yes we fans all want to go 13-0 and get a national Championship every year. But real fans know that is impossible due to many variables on and off the field. I just wonder if Tennessee had never played and won the national championship what would we be sitting here Bitching about now? Would Fulmer still be Coaching us, would we be disappointed in a 8-5 season?

I'm disturbed that the fact that Kiffin didn't mention "championships" in the context the OP wanted was "very disturbing". It didn't bother him...or annoy him...or irk him...we're talking full on disturbance...very disturbance. Must be a nice life.

For that matter, when was the last time Pat Summit promised a Championship? She has a better chance than most of making such claims.

When recruiting C. Parker, Summit was quoted as saying, "whoever gets her will cut down the nets," which could only be interpreted as meaning the NCAA finals nets. A real good promise of a championship by Summit, and which turned out to be true. twice.

Point taken.
