i am sad to see so many vols have their expectations so low.
Maybe you are confused about other fans are actually thinking??
you have to expect to win and you have to believe you belong.
Not neccessarily!! Expecting to win may be what keeps So So Cal losing to Ore St? Kiffin seemed to me to go out of his way to express his belief that he belonged at Tennessee.
I did not see that yesterday. i watched the whole conference and i never heard him directly say that he fully expects to be winning. when directly asked about his expectations, he shuffled and kind of moved around the question.
A competent realistic coach would never say that, at least from my point of view. Kiffin said he and his staff would not be outworked by anyone. He said he told the Vol players that the sooner they individually bought into what the new coaches were presenting, the sooner they would be coming together as a team and winning football games.
All im saying is whats wrong with the head coach at Tennessee publicly stating the he expects to win?
I'm saying there is nothing wrong with the coach, I'm saying your perception of coaching is off the mark.
THATS WHAT HE SHOULD BE SAYING.
I disagree.
I think the vast majority on this board suffer from low expectations. Kiffin apparently does too. That makes him a perfect fit.
in all fairness, hires like this can go one of two ways. we could luck out and get a bruce or we could get a dave. that's why they're risky.
Fan perception of the coaching profession and reality are on the same page for the most part and sometimes not even in the same book.
I think we would have a much better world and certainly a better fan base if more fans would go down to their local sports center and volunteer to be an assistant coach in any sport. There are more opening than you might imagine. The experience can be very rewarding and the activity can be addictive even. One can never know it all but one can learn something every game, every practice even.
I take a different view. Personally I expect nothing. I always hope for the best and immediately accept the results.
Preparations are of the essence in producing wins and/or avoiding losses, expectations are immaterial, even harmful at times.
The best compliment paid Kiffin to my mind was made by Titans HC Jeff Fisher. "Lane's teams were always well prepared when he was HC at Oakland."
What SEC teams have the best record vs Florida over the last 17 years????
You might be surprised to learn they are Ole Miss and Miss St.
Did Florida's expectation help or hurt those results????
I submit their expectations of wins are a big part of those games that resulted in losses.
How many people didn't like the Bruce Pearl hire at the time?
He did say that the precedent for championships has been established at UT and the bar was high but that is part of why he came as opposed to the other opportunities that had been offered.
If you dont provide limiricks gsvol, you are doing a diservice to us all.
