Very disturbing...what kiffin didnt say

i am sad to see so many vols have their expectations so low.

Maybe you are confused about other fans are actually thinking??

you have to expect to win and you have to believe you belong.

Not neccessarily!! Expecting to win may be what keeps So So Cal losing to Ore St? Kiffin seemed to me to go out of his way to express his belief that he belonged at Tennessee.

I did not see that yesterday. i watched the whole conference and i never heard him directly say that he fully expects to be winning. when directly asked about his expectations, he shuffled and kind of moved around the question.

A competent realistic coach would never say that, at least from my point of view. Kiffin said he and his staff would not be outworked by anyone. He said he told the Vol players that the sooner they individually bought into what the new coaches were presenting, the sooner they would be coming together as a team and winning football games.

All im saying is whats wrong with the head coach at Tennessee publicly stating the he expects to win?

I'm saying there is nothing wrong with the coach, I'm saying your perception of coaching is off the mark.

THATS WHAT HE SHOULD BE SAYING.

I disagree.

Fan perception of the coaching profession and reality are on the same page for the most part and sometimes not even in the same book.

I think we would have a much better world and certainly a better fan base if more fans would go down to their local sports center and volunteer to be an assistant coach in any sport. There are more opening than you might imagine. The experience can be very rewarding and the activity can be addictive even. One can never know it all but one can learn something every game, every practice even.

I think the vast majority on this board suffer from low expectations. Kiffin apparently does too. That makes him a perfect fit.

I take a different view. Personally I expect nothing. I always hope for the best and immediately accept the results.

Preparations are of the essence in producing wins and/or avoiding losses, expectations are immaterial, even harmful at times.

The best compliment paid Kiffin to my mind was made by Titans HC Jeff Fisher. "Lane's teams were always well prepared when he was HC at Oakland."

What SEC teams have the best record vs Florida over the last 17 years????

You might be surprised to learn they are Ole Miss and Miss St.

Did Florida's expectation help or hurt those results????

I submit their expectations of wins are a big part of those games that resulted in losses.

in all fairness, hires like this can go one of two ways. we could luck out and get a bruce or we could get a dave. that's why they're risky.

True, I guess we'll have to wait some time to know for sure. I have a good feeling about it and I like the Kiffin hire but I guess that really doesn't mean a lot.

What a waste of time thread...I just wasted 18 pages on a supposed lawyer who can't read, doesn't know Lane Kiffin's football history, didn't watch the press conference and knows nothing about Lane Kiffin's departure with the Raiders but still wants to claim he is inexperienced, didn't call the plays - despite at least 10 people providing evidence he did, and even accuses Kiffin of being in Al Davis's pocket (which is about the funniest thing I've heard in a while).

I have 2 advanced degrees - that entitles me to make up words that the mildly educated may find humorous...

i am always amazed when people spill personal information on the internet and then get pissy when people talk about it.

you're clearly a simpleton like I am. She assumed such info would only be used in a positive light.

Spitting qualifications on an internet message board are worth about as much as a pair of brown shoes to match a tuxedo.

How many people didn't like the Bruce Pearl hire at the time?

Personally I supported the move and likewise now, even though if I were Hamilton I would have given Fulmer another year, I support Kiffin to the fullest and hope for a great football season next year.

He did say that the precedent for championships has been established at UT and the bar was high but that is part of why he came as opposed to the other opportunities that had been offered.

He said the bar being set so high at Tennessee was one of the main reasons he is here.

If you dont provide limiricks gsvol, you are doing a diservice to us all.

Tennessee had a coach that was awesome,
he hired an OC name Clawson,
we couldn't run
we could pass
you might say awesome is gone some?

Tennessee now has a coach named Kiffin,
our future is now mostly about iffin'.
We'll know soon
if this is a boon
If we don't win big, there's sure to be snifflin'!:cray:

Rick stroud(st petersburg times) says Monte will join Lane at UT. Just heard it on 1st and 10. Sorry if this is old news!
