Very concerning stat

Maybe our players aren't smart enough to grasp things? More 5 star minds? :)

If that's the case then you adapt your scheme and simplify things. Thats a major sign of a good coach. Never should talent waste because of scheme due to smarts.

The good news is that we never gave them a short field. They had to put together long grinding drives.

We created 2 fumbles, blocked a FG, they missed a FG, stuffed a 2 point conversion(For the win.), and we forced them to punt 2 or 3 times.

That's a bunch of stops.

Our offense needs to be more effecient.

Our defense needs to get off the field faster.

Special teams did their job.

Bring on Indy St.

Win today. Win tomorrow.

Shoop is not worth what he is getting paid. Should have been fired after Vanderbilt last year. His scheme has yet to work.

Agreed. A chipmunk could have come up with a better defensive game plan. Shoop Sucks - wrong league for him.

Obvious that the dline was playing not to get hurt.. lined up 1 yard off the ball all night long to avoid the cut blocks. It made me want to rip my hair out.

yep, but it did indeed look like something they did on purpose...

As a proud card carrying Nega-Butch, I have to give kudos for what I believe was a quality win. I believe they schemed to minimize injury, and as such gave up more yards than we would like. But I think they expected to. I expected GA Tech to gain 400-500 yards on us. They are a tough draw, especially in your first game. The first half was rough, but adjustments were made, and we got out of Atlanta with a win. (I hope the GA Dome curse is gone now that we moved next door.)

I still don't like Butch, likely never will, but he deserves some credit. Until he Butch's up again, I have no complaints.

Yea, I believe what you posted, but I'm not sure I believe you actually feel that way (except for the not liking Butch part). I do want to acknowledge it though.

Behr, I've not said anything different since Monday.

I definitely feel much more positive after this win than I did after the Appy State game last year.

Behr....if it's not too much trouble, I'd really like to know what you meant by that. It seems you are questioning my honesty, and that just doesn't seem like you.

Sorry, I was going to respond to your last response, but I've got a lot going on right now with the approaching storm.

No, I wasn't questioning your honesty, I was just thinking how it didn't seem like you and maybe you were just trying to convince yourself of what you posted.

I wasn't giving you a hard time, I probably should have inserted a :) just so it didn't come across the way it did.

I do question the honesty of a few around here, yours it not one.

With the exception of your feelings toward Butch, I agree 100% with your post. It threw me off.:)

I appreciate that. Despite what my many admirers might think, I give credit where credit is due. I don't mindlessly dislike Butch. I am thoughtful and reasoned in my opinion of him.

The fact is, they did what they had to to win that game. Once again the team showed heart and grit to claw back in it. Adjustments and plays were made to win the game....even Paul Johnson saw it coming. However, due to the type of game, and opponent it was, we still know nothing about this team and likely won't until the end of the Florida game. I like what I saw, but am reserving judgement on where we actually are. I can give Butch that much credit...he limited injuries, and got the win. That is about as much as I can ask of any coach.

Like I said weeks ago to you....he's all we've got right now. I hope he's successful...and if he's not, I hope he's on the first thing smoking out of Knoxville.

And Behr....prayers are with you during the storm. God Bless.

Won't argue with any of that. I'm not as vocal with my disappointment as you and some others are, but make no mistake, I get just as disappointed as anyone.

I feel the same about the GT game and also about not really knowing too much until Florida. Like I told Wylo this morning, my attitude is different this year, but I still won't be here trashing the players, and making unnecessary stupid comments about Butch or the staff no matter how bad it might get.

Anyway, not sure where I was going with that, but there it is. Haha.

Hey thanks Boro, I sincerely appreciate that. I'll be fine.

I'm not buying the Ga Tech scheme excuse. 400 yards on a dive play....

I'm not buying either, the defense is still broken. We have 4 and 5 star linemen that are getting whipped at the LOS. And with Kirkland getting injured our next best option is a freaking walk-on starting at MLB  I still don't think they have the corners figured out either.

A lot of those yards were more than a dive play. Nearly half were picked up by the QB, typically as the THIRD option to keep it, because his pitchmen were covered and our defense was spread out. Unless you were at the fridge getting another beer all night, you surely saw him gashing us for big yards around the edge and getting tackled deep in the secondary. That is what their offense does. When you adjust to that is when you get the dive.

I would like to know why Kongbo lined-up with his hands in front of him the entire night. To me, that looks like he was waiting for something to happen instead going down into a three point stance and trying to make something happen.
I'm thinking this was the defensive "scheme". To not attack but, be ready to react and move with the ball. Would Shoop have had Barnett do the same thing?

Edit: After typing and posting, other post showed up explaining the same perceptions. Injury protection at almost all cost. In the end, I'm glad Tuttle never saw the find. Not worth the risk for a non-conference game and of not great overall significance.

its the worst part about going against that defense its a cut fest. In the same token you cant just sit back and protect. you can also attack them and protect yourself. they were almost guaranteed 3-4 yards a play even if it was a bust. Atleast we gambled finally went aggressive when it matter THE LAST PLAY!

I'm willing to reserve judgment until after this week. But I've gotta admit it's not looking good after the 2nd half of last season and the start of this season. Hopefully they were saving everything for Florida 🤞

I think Butch and Shoop have set the gators up. They're thinking we will come out playing off the ball and receivers. UF will expect us to be passive then....just when they least expect it....Shoop reverts to his blitzing ways and we catch the lizards completely by surprise and lower the Shoop on 'em.
