Vanilla playcalling due to offensive line?

Golesh was TE coach at UCF. Jeff Lebby was the OC until Kiffin hired him for Ole Miss. Heupel called the plays then too. Maybe Halzle is really bad at sitting in the box and watching what the defense is doing and relaying that. Apart from that he's not impacting play calls
Elsewhere it was posted that Golesh was a big part of game planning. Maybe Halze is not as good at that.

Actually per Wiki, he was "co-OC" and only there one year. I guess the talking head color guy in the Virginia game was FOS when he said Alex Golesh "has always been the OC for Heupel". Figures! Broadcasters seem to get dumber all the time.

Anyway, it's actually good to hear he was only at UCF 1 year.

Having said that, I am also pretty sure Heupel routinely consulted Golesh on play calling. You could see them talking whenever the camera was on Golesh.

Announcers really do get worse all the time lol. Absolutely they're talking the whole game and Golesh/Halzle now will suggest plays based on what they see but it's always been Heupel’s call.

After thinking about it I’m convinced our playcalling (all the screens etc) has been vanilla bc our staff may lack faith that our line can block long enough for routes to develop. Sure Milton isn’t Hooker, he’s not great but I feel like our offensive line may be the biggest issue on that side of the ball and playing Nico will not solve that.
Yup. He threw just fine in the Clemson and Vandy game last year when he had time.
