How can Vandy out hire UT? The last coach was awesome and got snatched up by PSU. This one is decent and is set to get snatched up by multiple teams. Our last 3 hires have been total busts. Are you serious?

Decision-making process is the key.

What's crazy is I think Derek Mason is actually a good coach. He just has major hurdles at Vandy with recruiting and staff hires.

We have major hurdles with our administration as well. That is why we have dropped over the decade to the skeleton program we have become.

THIS all day. Can you imagine him or his protege, Shaw, coaching an SEC public school team??? IMO they'd give Saban a run for his money straight up. Hell if CJP doesn't do it, give Mason a shot at the big time in orange. Not ready to throw in the towel on CJP yet, but we need a plan B on the horizon IMO.

After Miles was canned at LSU. There were small rumors that Shaw was of interest to a few donors of LSU. I think Shaw would kill it at LSU and would get to keep Aranda. David Shaw is the one dude I would kill to have at Tennessee. I would also love to see him in the SEC in general.

The biggest difference i see is no pressure on VU coaches. Win 6 and your going to keep your job. Mason has had all the pressure free time in the world to develop and
Very selectively pick his star lacking talent. Coaching and playing at vandy is fun.
Tennessee is exactly reversed. Sad

One of the biggest differences in Vandy and Tennessee is Vandy doesn't have a bunch of know it all fans trying to make all the decisions for the Administration and /or the football/athletic programs. Vandy doesn't the have stupid sports media trying to criticize every move made by Athletic Department. Don't people remember all the fuss made when Tennessee hired Rick Barns as our basketball coach. Too many patients trying to run the asylum.

I can’t even get mad anymore because I actually like Mason. He went from barely being able to form a sentence in front of the cameras to full fledged head coach now. Not to mention he wears that awesome vest on the sidelines. Hopefully he moves on to Colorado and Vandy hires another Bobby Johnson that we can actually beat.

We all laughed & made jokes at Vandy when the eliminated their AD position and named David Williams as Vice Chancellor of Athletics.....well, the last laugh is on us. Williams did an outstanding job hiring coaches, supporting athletics, etc despite the fact most Vandy hate seeing him in sweat pants at ball games. They are going to miss him and Ill be glad so see him go.

That said, Tennessee has made some of the worst hires in college history ranging from University President down to defensive coordinator during this same time.

I firmly believe Masons success against us is due to us nicknaming him Radio when he first took the job...everyone knows you don’t go full retard on a nickname

I'd rather Mason-vest stay because I am worried Vandy may hire another Franklin!

I'd take him or Mason all day long. Mason will move on soon, IMO. I think Shaw enjoys where he is, but you never know.

I think it comes down to good stewardship. Vandy has made wise decisions with the limited mount of resources they have allocated to football over the past decade. Unfortunately, we have taken a different path with the vast amount we have.

I agree. I think he’s a very good coach. Seems to get the absolute most out of the talent he has. He will get snatched by a bigger program in the next 2-3 years.

Having the whistle blown on academic fraud leaves a mark. What LBM uncovered is fact, substantiated to a much greater degree than anything lodged against Schiano. Conveniently forgotten by the Vickies as they rally around fat boy. Is that scandal reverberating to this day? Feels like it never went away.

I give their retiring AD, David Williams, credit. He's made some good hires in football and managed to keep their baseball coach. All of this on a far more limited budget than UT's. Compare this to UT's AD's.........
