Vandy weighs using female soccer player to kick

Does kicking field goals and punting require that much strength? Most kickers and punters look like bean poles. I know its a skill that requires lots of time and effort, but I don't see anything involved with either that would prevent women from being good at it.

Playing any other position the field? Yes, guys would win all day long. But kicking and punting, I think girls could do that.

All you have to do is watch soccer to see the total difference in power and distance on kicks between men and women. There is a lot of technique, but a female goalie can't clear the field with a kick like most of the men can.

Nope. Shooting FT’s is a better example for determining hand/eye coordination which is the point I was making. Same for the 75 year old. He may have great hand/eye coordination.
There's literally no point to talking about only hand eye coordination. If you consider something like darts a pure hand-eye sport a woman has only beaten a man on a pro circuit once from what I can tell.

But what's the point? None of that is real athletics and it's kind of goofy to pinpoint one tiny element of a sport that women maybe, just maybe, can equal men on every once in a while.

Not all of them are bean poles but still don’t mistake how you see them as them being weak. I bet those “skinny” guys still have great lower body strength and flexibility.

Are you kidding? Think about it. Think about how 40 yards used to be considered a long field goal 40 years ago but most kickers now have the ability to kick in the 60 yard range. What’s the difference?

That’s all I was doing. Never made a claim that women should be competing against men.

Good points. They definitely have lower body strength. I worded it poorly, that's on me.

My overall point is I don't think there is anything preventing a girl from being able to consistently kick 40, possibly a 45 yard field goal. Obviously that's not good enough to win an NFL job or a top end CFB job. But Maryville college? Carson Newman? I think there are girls who, with proper training and playing time, could be good enough to kick at that level.

But I think there’s a supply of kickers that can kick considerably better even at that level. I would’ve felt better about today if they didn’t continually hype it up like she showed she was equally as good as male counterparts.

40-45 yards might be good enough for a single A HS level kicker. That’s about it.

Today was a joke. I think all of us are in agreement there. Publicity stunt.

My only point is girls should have an opportunity to train, kick, and actually earn a spot as a kicker. I think some would. But I agree most kickers and punters would still be guys.

I think the opportunity is there and has been for awhile. I don’t think 40-45 yards is gonna cut it at any collegiate level though. Maybe if arena football was still around.

There is a lot of guys cut from teams that are better kickers than that young lady. Just saying.

The SEC Network halftime guys were gushing about the historic significance and general awesomeness of the event, giving it fairly lengthy coverage. At no point did they delve into her kicking ability leading me to believe that because Vanderbilt is the most terriblest team ever, they thought "since all our kicking specials teams are under covid quarantine, let's come up with some sort of woke gimmick." I guess the idea was to distract from their terribleness and maybe get the Nashville intelligencia to like them. Fuller cemented the event in history by delivering the opening kickoff of the second half--a piece of sh%t squib kick (was that the intention?) to the Mizzou 35. If someone presents facts saying she beat out eligible men I'll gladly tone down my cynicism. Apologize for the insinuation, even.

Some of y’all just need to lighten the f*^$ up and just let it be. And if any of you jackwads have daughter(s), you’d respect the significance. Geeeze.

What is the significance? This wasn’t merit based it is simply a publicity stunt where a terrible team with zero relevance is wanting to be an attention whore. THAT IS IT. I don’t want any of my kids GIVEN anything.

I have 2 and no, I dont. Girls dont belong on a football field with D1 boys. It is utterly stupid and about as Vandy a move as you can get.

There are literally extreme differences between male and female bodies, that people dont understand that, is mind boggling.

That's what I don't understand. Why does it always have to be sexist to say men and women are different. A full grown woman don't need to be on a football field with grown men. Sure there are women that's stronger then some men I understand the outliers, but why is it so hard to leave stuff alone. We tried this experiment with Danica Patrick in Nascar and she couldn't compete. I don't see D1 football players trying out to play goalie on the women's team to be the historic male goalie on a NCAAW team.

I know this is a hard concept, but women can earn respect and be looked highly on with out having to compete with a man. I kinda feel sorry for the young lady. She has had her name/game video everywhere for this "historic" moment and 95% of the comments that I have seen are of how she sucked at kicking.

Vanderbilt should have the decency enough to train her to do the job and not just stick her to the wolves for a feel good PR stunt because they can't win a game.
