Vandy, stayin' classy

I think Notre Dame and Navy, who play each other every year, have a tradition of honoring each other's postgame alma mater performance. But, these other schools probably don't expect the service academies to do this. You certainly won't see Georgia and Florida standing for each other's alma mater on Saturday.

Vandy did the right thing by apologizing, but if a service academy wishes to share this postgame respect, I think they should discuss it with their opponent in advance of gameday. Vandy was probably caught off-guard.

Advance warning may have helped avoid the embarrassment. Although the person who turned on the music probably should have recognized that something was happening.

Agree. If Franklin has much success, he will be gone quickly.

The academies have done this forever.

Then I retract what I said earlier. This is utterly disgraceful.

Having done it for years or not, this clearly wasn't some nefarious plot to belittle the Armed Forces.

Come on.

It doesn't have to nefarious to be a classless move on Vandy's part.

Being ignorant of another school's traditions, whether or not they are well-known, doesn't make you classless.

Walking off the field while the USMA played ther alma mater because you are ignorant of their tradition would be embarrassing. Blaring music while the USMA is playing their alma mater is classless.

being ignorant when they've done it in your stadium before is pathetic. Trampling on their alma mater is classless.

It was classless on Vandy's part. Anytime a school plays any of the service academies, that school should go out of its way to congratulate all of the opposing players and honor whatever traditions they have pregame and postgame.

I'm kinda surprised that there were any Vandy fans around to even do that. They're usually gone right after halftime anyway.

If there is a way for them to humiliate themselves, they usually can do it. They have all the smugness of a program like Duke (in hoops), yet they have all the success of a, well, Vandy.

"lol, "to say it was inadvertent is just not accurate"??? Seriously??

It was most definitely inadvertent.. Just because somebody could have easily turned down the music does not imply that something was done on purpose.. Wow, did u take a logic class at UT?

They were unaware of Army's postgame tradition, which makes sense since it is something exclusive to the service academies..

Everyone is acting like Vandy is classless for whatever reason (fear? envy?), when all they did was make an honest mistake and apologize for it "

this kind of response from a vandy fan is what makes them classless

So out of curiosity, how long did the Vandy loudspeakers keep blasting away? I mean, I can see starting to play, anyone can make a screw-up out of ignorance or spacing out, but you don't think that they noticed, hey, something's going on down there, and maybe we should take the needle off the vinyl for a moment?

If they kept on, that's classless.
