Vandy close to making huge instate push

That's UNPOSSIBLE! It's Vandy! /sarcasm

People's attitude that Vandy could never get better or compete for top recruits is pure complacency, close-minded, and devoid of objectivity. Only the biggest homers think it's impossible for a team in the SEC to improve. If Stanford can field a winner, so can Vanderbilt. All it takes is the right coach and a little more commitment from the institution. Early returns indicate that Franklin might be the right guy (as a recruiter, anyway) and they seem to be more serious about fielding an improved team.

I'm not saying Vandy is here to stay or that they're even relevant on the field. However, it's a great school in a great city and it seems Vanderbilt is serious about getting better. Their initial pursuit of Gus Malzahn (subsequent agreement and retraction) is proof that they want to get better, IMO. Bobby Johnson was OK, but SEC schools shouldn't hire HCs from a I-AA school and expect to consistently get to bowl games. The bad thing for Vandy is that if James Franklin turns out to be a good coach, he won't stay for long. But his recruiting is most definitely something of which to take notice. They've got more 4-star commits (according to ESPN) this year than in the past decade combined, and this is seven months before NSD 2012.

A lot can happen and it's still much too early to render a verdict on James Franklin and Vandy's improvement on the field or in the recruiting arena. But those who don't think something is going on over at the West End aren't paying attention.

Any thoughts Sab on who these four might Be???? and how bad will it hurt our recruiting???

Azubike and Jelks are two of them. We want both although either can be replaced in the class. I really like Azubike though as a 3-4 end.

I'm not worried about that loud mouth 3rd rate coach from vandy. He doesn't know what he is getting himself into. Their facilities will always be at an mtsu level and their stadium will always be 85% full of the other teams fans. Once their sun belt level team loses 9 to 10 games for the next 3 years the vandy administration will not continue to give him whatever he wants therefore they will fire him and vandy will continue to be the red headed step child of the SEC

While I don't expect Vandy to be a powerhouse anytime soon, this argument is losing relevance. Stanford is equally as difficult to get into as Vanderbilt, and they are doing fine.

Stanford is in california with a lot of talent and vandy is in Tennessee with very few talent

I could see it being Blake Bars, Chad Voytik, Woody Baron, Brandon Lewis, maybe even Mathers (He wants early playing time)

The latest interview with Redmond, he mentions nothing about Vanderbilt being a top school. Kimbrow and Redmond with be together.
It wont be Bowles, Robinson (from the sound of grades), or Jelks (no Tennessee season ticket holder will go to Vandy)

I don't think Azubike is either. I question the accuracy of the Barton Simmons post. I think a lot of these prospects will either rethink, or they are frontin'.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of these prospects are listing Vandy just for the fun of it.

The real question is how many of these guys have Vol offers. If they snag Kimbrow, Redmond, and Jelks, that's a little different than getting. . . I don't remember, name some TN prospects that we haven't offered. Mathers? I'd even though Azubike in with that first group, since it seems like he's had a pretty constant dialogue with the UT staff and is still planning on camping here.

The Memphis kids, including Kimbrow. I'm telling you guys, Vandy is to be taken serious. What Franklin is doing reminds me of what Bruce Pearl did when he first got to Tennessee. He's selling the Vanderbilt program and people are buying. If he gets his current players to buy in like recruits are, Vandy is going to win soon.

JMO.....

So, they'll win 4 or 5 games instead of 2 or 3?

Mathers has an offer. Had one before Robinson.

Exactly! When it's all said and done we will be ranked higher in recruiting and we will win 7 or more games per year than vandy. If people actually believe that vandy will have a better class than us at anytime then they have lost their minds
