What does he bring that Okpara, Estrella and Phillips don’t already bring? Curious
You always have to ask the question ... Is this signing a signal for one of the above mentioned? :-o We desperately need a scoring presence in the post. I hope he brings some of it. JP will help, Felix and Cade will certainly be focused on their offensive post skills this offseason.

If we end up keeping all four of the above, then we ideally would want a stretch 4, two more guards, and two 3s. Assuming Boswell remains and the two freshmen make it, that would give us 13 scholly players. Scholly limits go to 15 this year iirc. While I'd love to fill that out all the way, I'm not sure teams are going to be able to keep that many around with yearly free agency and above the table cash.

I think this is the transition to a more inside game to out as losing our backcourt starting over. We expected to take a step back but games like Ole Miss where we got dominated inside we will be more equipped.

Tobe 2.0?
Exactly what I was thinking

With more Offensive Game

ha....was thinking this, too.
The thing I like most is he is nice step in the right direction of getting us more points around the basket/in paint.
Extremely happy with us getting this guy.
Barnes knows what he is doing.
Such a blessing having him as a coach for at least another year!

Better offensive game than Okpara and Phillips. More physicality than Estrella. He is Tobe Awaka with some post moves
Completely disagree on Phillips. Starting to develop a little post game and will be much better in that regard than this guy next year.

There's not many players who wouldn't be an improvement over Igor
Really? Not sure what the Igor hate is about. He never got back his consistency from 3 (based on every previous year) and STILL outshot Gainey out there. He made over 60% of his 2s, compared to 54% for Carey He averaged 10.5 rebounds per 40 minutes, compared to 11.3 for Carey, and almost identical blocks and steals as Carey. Not to mention all the hustle plays.

You didn't notice Igor not showing up in almost all the big games? He was pretty bad the last part of the season and into the tourney. Dumb fouls that took him out of games early and dumber turnovers.

I wouldn't compare Igor and Gainey. For the most part, Gainey showed up and was terrific coning off the bench

What I like most is he's from the SEC. Someone said above his stats are better in SEC play than in NC. Also the fact he came over from Candyland ... I will take it! (I live in Middle TN and yes was at that game in Memorial 😠). Speaking of, that game among others contributed to loss of 1-seed. Anyway, glad he made the move! Read in a candy forum they were paying him $1.2 mil but VOLS upped it to $1.5 mil. Don't know if facts or not.

He played well in both games against Tennessee , good addition to the team . Solid defender and rebounds well

I wonder if Carey is the big to be added that can contribute right away that Basilio had been talking about. Or is there another one?

8 points 6 rebounds in 20 minutes a game. His weakness is free throws. Strong rebounder will certainly help the team.

His addition means we have the bulk and depth to bang with the likes of Florida, Miss St., Candy, Ole Miss and other in-conference programs that like to play a rotation of physical bigs. Makes us less spread out but gives more post and inside-out scoring threats.

This is a great get! With him (and hopefully JP) we will see a lot more of those deep paint touches earlier in the offense. Think back to Grant Williams deep post days
I think the folks trying to compare him to Grant will be very disappointed and it’s not fair to Carey. Grant was an all American and 2 times SEC POY and now on his second NBA contract.
