Vanderbilt talking and targeting national title in football

Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia sounds off on Alabama matchup: 'If we play our game, it won't be close'

They have so many NFL aged players, they should be pretty good. Michigan won in 2023 by keeping a bunch of old guys around. They weren’t as athletic as Bama, but they were very disciplined and stout enough to create holes up front.

You don’t want that…and like many who were quick to dismiss MS state and mark it as an automatic W, you cannot count your chickens before they hatch. Vandy cost us a shot at the SECCG in 2016. Probably would have got smoked by Bama again, but at least we would have made an appearance. Crazy we have not been to one in almost 20 years. I could see Vandy being a good program. Great city, best area HS talent in the state, and a very prestigious academic program. It could happen and it would suck for UT. When Franklin left for PSU I was relieved. He was a real problem at Vandy. Little Mason tried but he just wasn’t as good of a coach. I think Lea might be pretty legit, and he played at Vandy, and in this NIL era it certainly is plausible.
I'm still pissed about that 2016 Vandy game. Total choke job.

I think it would be far more interesting for the Tennessee-Vandy game to actually mean something—maybe the winner gets a playoff spot and the loser is out? Would be more satisfying to beat the ‘Dores with those stakes on the line than just another game with little to no drama. Might actually make this a legit rivalry.
I can't help but wonder if UT-Vandy would mirror the Iron Bowl if only Vandy had been decent all these years.

Vandy players are talking all this crap to try and sway kids to Vandy, that’s all it is. It’s nothing more than trying to brainwash and get attention on the school. At the end of the day though, it’s still Vandy.

Ok, just to let everyone know, crow is an acquired taste. I should know, I have had it shoved down my throat enough.
When I originally posted this, I could not have imagined Vandy going 10 and 2 and totally dominating UT.
Here I am, with a plate full of crow...

And Vandy coach is trying to make an argument - but they lost to Bama and Texas. They are not jumping over Bama into that 10 spot. And they are not taking the spots currently held by Georgia, Ole Miss, A&M and Oklahoma. They are like 6 or 7 in the SEC pecking order.

And they are not jumping Texas Tech or BYU or Notre Dame and it is very likely that Miami will be above them.

But I am sure they think the rules are not for them and they can just rewrite their own.

These conference have gotten so big that the better teams aren’t playing each other enough. The Big 10 has 2 undefeated teams and another with 1 loss. The SEC has 3 1-loss teams and 3 2-loss teams. There are 8 Power 4 teams with 1 loss or less and 15 with 2 losses or less. That’s insane.

The Big 10 scheduling is very suspect. Then again that conference is not as strong, top to bottom as the SEC. I know they think they are - but they are not.
