Vanderbilt extends Mason's contact

Vanderbilt’s longevity has nothing to do with their post-integration reputation as the SEC’s doormat football program.

The extent to which coaches like Franklin or Mason elevate Vandy anywhere past that doormat status is a testament to how solid they are as football coaches.
That's the thing...Mason hasn't really elevated them past doormat status at all. In Mason's tenure at Vandy, they've finished 7th, 4th, 6th, 6th, and 6th in conference play (SEC East).

The terms weren't disclosed, so I don't know if he got a raise (assuming he probably did). I understand an extension, because any new coach they got is likely to be a downgrade, but I wouldn't have given him a raise.

I still maintain that if he didn't have the wins over Tennessee, they'd be over him.

And yet he's 1-4 against Kentucky. Lifetime contract as far as I'm concerned.
