'26 VA RB Savion Hiter (Michigan commit)

Anybody remember the Chris Simms recruitment from '98-'99?

He verbally committed to Tennessee on live television in December of '98, and talked about the peer recruiting he would be doing for Tennessee .... but then flipped to Texas exactly 3 weeks later.

Yes, 3 weeks is an eternity in recruiting.
Wasn’t that because Texas stupidly promised him that he would start? Which no other school was dumb enough to do? I recall him starting games, and Major Applewhite having to come in to salvage a win.

When you only target one guy at a position, then you fail to land him, I consider that a "big fail". Maybe you have a different definition. It's not catastrophic to the team, but it's a big fail in recruiting.
Depends on context. Maybe, right or wrong, you figure you‘re set well enough at RB that you‘re not interested in adding anyone that cycle unless he’s that good.

Got get some 5 stars to keep up with the jones s …. Georgia Ohio states and Texas .
Oh Lord how long till we have match those guys rushing production???? OH WAIT…..

Love me some Hiter today, have him in the Jamal class of potential out if HS, not many of those, but can lament where our backs have been, where we are, or our immediate future. Better with him, but committee backs work too.

My own personal, been all in on guy is Bishop. Really hoping he makes it hard to feature anybody but him for a couple of years while mixing in other guys diverse skill sets. One guy can’t provide being multiple injuries away from disaster. Like where we are even if my dream does not come true with hometown boy does good.

I was in school during that recruitment. My friends and I were out on the strip that weekend. We kept running into his “recruiting entourage” all night and they marched him all over campus/the strip, throwing every hot girl in the in Knoxville at him. I think he got caught up in the moment and committed. Then his dad had him take a step back and decide on a school for “other reasons.” They decided on Texas at that point. Still wasn’t the best choice, but I understood why he backed up and reevaluated.

What Happened some ask. From the very beginning he was all in with Michigan. Heart was there. Give the Vols Staff Credit for even making this as close as it was and for a brief moment Kid was thinking of wearing Orange. Its not a fail by staff as RB Room is stronger than its been since Heupel has been here. We are in on 3 Bluechip players next year one of which is Elite and it will be another battle with Buckeyes. Now this morning maybe Hiter commits to our Big Orange. We will see. Anyway Today is another Beautiful Day GOD has given all of us. In CHRIST Alone

People tend to be god awful at keeping secrets. Could be him talking to a close friend, or could be one of his close family members talking to one of their close friends, etc.

The only way to keep things entirely secretive is not informing anyone of your decision, but with things like this, that's extremely rare to find.
My son told me last night. If this was me, I would tell you dad and mom but I would not even tell my sister….

I don’t like reading “failure. Coaches failed here..” it’s not a failure to be in the final 2 for the #1 rb in the country. Seems like an immature and emotional response to a 2 year well fought battle.

So, what happened here? Seems it went from Tennessee to Michigan in just a few weeks. Any idea why things swung away from us last minute when supposedly the family stopped talking?
it was never Tennessee out front with Michigan trailing. it was always 50/50 with the vols feeling good. that's not the same of us having the lead. If you look back beyond a gold fish's memory Michigan was always the lead with us pushing hard to get into a position to challenge them.

most people who follow recruiting too much make mountains out of molehills, stretching the click bait language the "analysts" use to fit whatever bias they have. Vol fans were assuming that the NCAA was going to hammer Michigan, and that was going to make the difference, which is just another set of delusion believing the NCAA was going to do anything. it was never language from the analysts that had as the clear favorites. Michigan and Tennessee both felt good about their chances.

Michigan's recruiting people had always been using the same language AP and the type have been using, 50/50, slight lead, challenging/pushing, communication on going, everyone is tight lipped.

and for the negative two cents my opinion matters, I wouldn't be shocked if Hiter chooses us. I think its too close to be shocked if he chooses Tennessee of Michigan. Shocking would be what others have pointed out, Ohio State, Georgia, or someone like a Colorado.

Couldn’t imagine my heart being in Michigan 🫣🫣

If he's choosing Michigan because of Alford, he has to consider that staff may not be there his entire time. They could very well ne gone next season. As for Coach Sims, he's a great recruiter, coach and leader of men. He's not going anywhere. In addition, we just had Wright drafted to the Dolphins and Sampson was POY in the SEC and also drafted. Our offense goes as our rushing attack goes. He'll be a Vol. There's no way he goes to Michigan with our NIL thrown in there for good measure. Paint it Big Orange!!!
