'26 VA RB Savion Hiter (Michigan commit)

Wiltfong on the 28th...

Michigan has always been one of the top contenders, Tennessee has surged this year. Around Knoxville they’ve felt very confident at times with Hiter. From the relationship with coach De’Rail Sims to the recent draft picks of Jaylen Wright and Dylan Sampson (SEC Offensive Player of the Year) to going over Josh Heupel’s past offensive success throughout his career and the magnitude of the running back in his scheme, the Vols have become a very enticing option.

With Michigan, Hiter has always been the top overall target regardless of position. The NFL-style scheme and the way the running back is featured, the long-standing relationship with Tony Alford and vibe around the program have always been things that have excited him about the program.

Beyond all that, Hiter is keeping his process close to the vest.

I don’t really understand the appeal of Michigan in the post-Harbaugh era. Hopefully they suck for a 2nd straight year and then maybe Hiter will rethink his choice (if it is Michigan).
Michigan is also due for mountains of bad karma on account of that recent NCAA fake penalty garbage. I hope Hiter gets far away from it.

From Michigan on July 31...

Hiter locked in his Aug. 19 commitment date recently, and it still feels like his decision will come down to Michigan and Tennessee. The top-ranked, elite running back prospect out of Mineral (Va.) Louisa County High is the No. 8 recruit in the nation. He’s keeping his decision extremely quiet, so any sweeping conclusions or predictions around his recruitment are probably misplaced at this point. With that said, a final decision is approaching quickly. Michigan’s relationship with Hiter keeps the Wolverines in very strong contention here.

Did you not read the last half of his post? He said he cannot comment on the evolution of his recruitment until after the commitment. This is on the heels of saying that as of the end of July, he was a Vol. On top of that, he said he’s not sure about the final decision nor about why there’s been such recent silence. Tells me things have changed. Now, have they changed for the worse and then back to the better decision in that time span? Very possible. However, I don’t think I was misinterpreting anything that he said, based on his words that he used.
I wonder how many voices a bunch of you guys hear inside your head. It must be exhausting!

Again, if it's went south, it happened in 3 weeks. On July 27th, both AP and SF were pretty confident.
3 weeks is an eternity in recruiting...maybe Michigan got wind they were slipping and upped their offer?

I also know there was some chatter about Hiter wanting his NIL structured a certain way and maybe we weren't willing to meet those demands?

I have no doubt Heup and our staff did all they could do here. We've been pretty darn fortunate this cycle with how many of our top targets have gone our way (also got Moa as an unexpected surprise). I'm really hoping we are the pick tomorrow, but I'm not going to throw a fit and start blaming the staff if he picks Michigan.

So much of recruiting seems to be about optics and momentum.

Our coaches found Star Thomas in the fall porthole. Not worried as much about RB.

Well if Hiter was hoping that his commitment would be an unknown and people would be in a frenzy on where he would go before he announced, he needs to look no further than this thread.
