UTSports signing show - Mike Keith is excellent

Yes, and Mike could do Vols football on Saturdays and Titans on Sundays.
Many pro teams have announcers that also do college games.

His contract with the Titans specifically forbids him from being the full-time voice of any other team. They have allowed him to call baseball and basketball for the SEC Network outside of the NFL season.

His situation is unique. He is one of only three NFL play-by-play announcers that are full-time employees of their teams. Most teams hire a broadcaster that only calls the games and has another job or jobs the rest of the week. Mike does community events and promotional activities for the team.

Would it be considered full time voice if Keith only did UT football but not UT basketball.

I don't like excessive, over-the-top excitement in an announcer--it's homerism. Some excitement, yes, but don't overdo it. Kesling, IMO, has actually become a very solid announcer. He's got a good voice.

I wouldn't know about Kesling. Haven't listened to the radio broadcasts in over 10 years. He bored me to tears when he was a local sports anchor. Only time I hear snippets is like at the end of the Georgia game when they played it on TV, and it just reinforced my decision to tune the Vol Network off.

I would rather have the homerism. Kesling makes watching paint dry a more exciting use of time. But at least you enjoy it.

Despite his blunders, I still prefer Kesling over Keith. MK comes across as way too arrogant. That said, I bet Kesling retires within 10 years and Keith will take over. Kesling must be about 60 and Keith is about 48 or so.

Edit: MK is a 1986 HS grad and Kesling is a 1977 UT grad. That makes Keith about 48 or 49 and Kesling most likely 61 or 62.

I thought is was telling that Kesling was not around for the singing program, but it could be that he could not be there because of basketball obligations. Of the two, because he is more accurate in his ability to announce details of the game, I prefer Keith .

Keith is hosting the signing show on utsports.com.
He is so knowledgeable about our program.
If he would consider doing radio play by play for Vols games on Saturday's and Titans games on Sunday's, I wish that he would.
I know at least three guys do this:
FSU/Bucs, Cal/49ers, Wes Durham - ACC TV games/Falcons.

Love to see Kesling moved into fund raising/administration.

Keith is a VFL. He should have been given the job when John Ward retired in 1998, but instead we got bland Bob, and I still don't know why.

Maybe someone should start a petition to fire Bob (football only) and hire Mike Keith as the Voice of the Football Vols! Bob can still do basketball.

I think Bob is the curse on TN football

He was there. Maybe not for the entire show, but he was there. He and MK had a segment together where they talked for a while. Also, basketball had a 9pm tip the night before, so Bob had a late night. Mike Keith is a natural at that kind of thing.

I do wish the Titans would have come a year or two later. I don't think he could have turned down following Ward. But since he was already with the Titans when Ward retired, I don't think he wanted to bail on them so soon.

Give me homerism any time. If I am listening to a team's broadcast, I expect it (for either side). If I am watching or listening to a national broadcast, homerism has no place.

Kesling was there.
Keith did live interview with him to fill time during slow period waiting on final LOI's to come in.

Keith is a much better interviewer.
Kesling interviews with statements...his own positions, with a question mark tagged onto the end. It drives me crazy.
Example: "Coach, your defensive line played great tonight, didn't they?
That is called a close ended question and is considered very poor journalistically.
He should use an open ended question.
Example: "Coach, how do you think your defensive line played tonight?"
We want to know what his interview subject thinks not if the person agrees with the questioner on a topic.
Journalism 101. They teach it at UT.
