UT's own Charles Davis did an excellent job tonight helping announce N/C game

The coverage last night was very informative, I had no idea that Tebow has traveled the world on missionary trips!!

and was also born in the Philipines i think because his parents were there doing mission work. i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but trust me it won't be the first or the last. :)

Yeah, because big networks love a guy who doesn't correct the play by play guy when he's got the down wrong and spends most of the game speaking in pure platitudes. The next insightful comment Davis makes on television will be his first.

"Oh my, decision time here for the Sooners on 4th down!

It's just third down, Thom...

Here they go, on 4th down... and they're stopped!

What? They're going for it on 4th down again?"

Oye.

Davis did ok. I think the other guy was trying out to be tebow's spokesman.

My two favorite announcers of all time are Marty Brennaman and Jack Buck. Thom Brennaman and Joe Buck are proof that it's really tough to live up to Hall of Fame standards.

I was hoping Brantley would show up in the booth to complete the feeling that I was watching a Reds game.

That announcing crew last night, Davis included, was terrible. Plus, the fox sports graphics were a joke. I'm glad ESPN is doing all these bowls starting next year.

Pretty much. Why would I call a Dallas Cowboy safety name out. I don't even like them.

That wasn't Charles Davis that made the 4th down faux pas...that was the main announcer.

The Cowboy isn't big on warm and fuzzy. He would have called BS on all the Tebow deification.

Doesn't ESPN start a contract with the BCS bowls next year? Or is that further down the road? I hope it's next year.

Next season is Fox's last broadcasting BCS games. The good news is that although they will show the Fiesta, Sugar, and Orange, ABC's exclusive deal with the folks in Pasadena means that not only will ABC show the Rose Bowl like always, but they will show the National Championship game from Pasadena as well. All BCS games following the 2010 season will move to ABC/ESPN.

I was thinking the same thing about Davis but I was just confused trying to figure out who these "bigger" networks were. Better? Sure, that can be argued. But bigger? I was under the impression FOX was pretty high up that list.

CBS, ABC and NBC are all bigger.

Did he correct him? No. Why? Because he didn't know either. Davis is a jackass of the highest order.

Come on, guy! I've MET Charles Davis and he's the nicest, most pleasant person you could hope to call a friend. What's wrong with you? Seperate the person from the professional criticisms. Trust me on this one...he's one of the good guys, and he was a superb free saftey too.

Jack Buck was absolutely fabulous. I only had radio as a kid and KMOX was my night time favorite. Jack doing the Cardinal games and Dan Kelly calling the Blues games. I just assumed everyone was that good. And I had Pete Franklin's talk show on WWWE but I suspect few of you know of him.

Last night I just keep saying to myself: "Charles, would you not talk so much". He didn't seem to understand the concept of dramatic pause.

More tradition but I don't know about bigger. There aren't many major sporting event that they either don't have or aren't in a rotation for at the moment. May not be true in a few years as the ABC/ESPN world domination continues but as of now I would say they are on equal footing.

I like davis as a commentator, but he is the only thing I liked about fox's presentation. I have'nt enjoyed any of their broadcasts through any of the bcs games. Maybe it's their lack of being around the college football nation through the season, then broadcasting the biggest games of the year. Like I said, can't put my finger on it.

Completely agree! Davis' stock is rising as a broadcaster because he's well prepared, intelligent, and well-spoken. Fox's problem for cfb is having boring, copycat legacy broadcasters like Brennamen that have their job because of their last name! He needs to stick to baseball and never do a cfb game ever again. With Fox's half-assed bid on the football contract, we won't have to worry about it much longer anyway.

Charles Davis did a great job! Saw him the Orlando Airport and he was very friendly and classy. He works for several networks and does talk radio in Orlando.

He was also was Vice President of the student body while at UT.

Sorry, but I have to disagree.Charles Davis is one of the nicest people I've ever met,and I've never heard a bad word about him from people that actually know him.

I think you dislike him because he's black....RACIST!!!!:) J/K:p

that was among the worst coverage ever...

Thom Brennaman had a massive hard on for Tebow the entire game...he made some of the most idiotic comments ever. "if you are lucky enough to spend 5 minutes with tim tebow your life is changed forever" and then when he was flagged for taunting an OU defender, "that may be the first thing he has done wrong in his life"

wow.

and davis was just as bad with the whole 4th down argument on 3rd down...and then they resumed the argument again on 4th down...

terrible

Davis was a four-year starter at defensive back at the University of Tennessee. In addition, he was voted to the Academic All-SEC team in 1986.
Actually did better than his broadcast partner.

I know Davis is a Vol, but I thought he was awful. He needs to stop and take a breath every once in a while.

He's no Gary Danielson yet...but Charles is a very bright guy and he'll improve as he gets more of these games and gets out of the studio setting.
