UTC's David Blackburn says no official contact with UT on job

Yeah, look how well the boosters running the show works at Texas. I mean it's a no brainier.

Interesting that the football coach and the basketball coach earn substantially more than the Chancy and the AD. Let the BOT hire the Chancy and let the Big $$$ Boosters select the AD.

Sure the Boosters get it wrong but to imply that the BOT gets it right all the time is laughable - for example see Cheek.

Great point, seriously. I am sure it is somewhere in the middle like most things in life.

Y'all sure are good at armchair quarterbacking how people should spend their money.

WE Volunteer fans are destined for mediocrity in sports while the BOT of a land grant state university is trying to become an Ivy League institution. Couple that with a milk-toast group of Big $$$ Boosters who don't appear to have the wherewithal to assert their collective power over the BOT and Chancy - they are the guys who donate the huge sums of cash that fund the new buildings on the hill. These people do not seem to understand their strength, position and station at the university. It is very unfortunate for us.

You'd do well to diagram your opening sentence, sport, and recognize that the BOT cannot possibly become an Ivy League institution.

Whomever is hired will be whomever is hired and that person will be hired when UT is ready to hire the AD. No amount of carrying on will change that. And no amount of saying hire this one verses that one will change the hire.

That can be said about anything. Why talk about games? It's not like we can have an effect on them.
Y'all must've missed the thread where it's the fault of VN that costs us games and recruits. We are more important in the decision making scheme of things than you could imagine!

I don't believe that to be true.

Sad part of this whole goat rodeo is that DB has worked his whole career to gain the experience and training to be prepared for the UTK AD job. And he did this at the advice and guidance from his superiors aND mentors. He has done nothing but be a UT System team player.

For some to now express concern that DB does not have enough experience is beyond belief and unacceptable (IMO).

They talked about it on the Sports Source on Sunday morning, about how the boosters and administration are all divided and fear that Blackburn doesn't have enough experience running a 14 million dollar a year company.

There may be some division between the boosters and some of the administration.

I don't believe a "lot" is accurate in regards to the boosters.

Source: Tennessee is not leaning toward hiring search firm of Todd Turner Collegiate Sports associates in pursuit of athletic director.

Source: `We will hire a search firm depending on qualifications and if we need one. We owe it to Tennessee to get the best (A.D.) there is.'

The source said incoming Chancellor Beverly Davenport has indicated `we want the best of the best.'

The thing those boosters don't see from their ivory towers is how the fanbase is wilting. There will always be a great number of alumni, but the sidewalk fans bring a ton of money and more than anything they raise potential students. Personally speaking, Chattanooga and SE TN has always been a melting pot of UGA, Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee fans. But when Tennessee becomes a laughing stock for a decade and change, and the other three are winning conference and national championships in the meantime, kids that otherwise would have been Tennessee fans are becoming fans of other teams. That hurts every facet of the program from revenues, to prospective students, to prospective student athletes.

The UT fan base is not wilting. About a hundred or so folks on Volnation may be wilting but those folks are not a very good representation of the UT fan base. That's the truth guys. The average UT fan probably doesn't know this site exists. Case in point---roughly 100,000 true UT fans in the stands for our games.

The only Vol fans that are wilting are bandwagons or not true fans. It may be hard at times and we have been through our fair share of tough moments, but I'll always be a Vol. It's a way of life. It's in my blood. I'll always be proud and represent Tennessee. I love this University and program.

I remember being a small kid and holding my parents hand as we ran across campus trying to make kickoff. I remember sitting in the freezing cold watching games and seeing some of the best play the game. I remember being a freshman on campus and my days at law school. I have 2 degrees from Tennessee and I'll always have a place for it in my heart.

I do hope the administration starts moving in the right direction, making the right decisions for the program, and we can start winning real championships again.

Well if he can't run a 14 million dollar a year company he may have problems with one that takes in over 100 million a year. ;)

I'm assuming the 14 was a typo.

Coninuity is what we strive for, and that can only come from hiring somebody that is familiar with our leadership, and that is Mike Bohn. I love all VFLs and love Blackburn as well, but Cincinnati is a bigger program than UT AND Bohn comes from here along with our new chancellor and head football coach Butch Jones. It's a no-brainer -LET'S GET BOHNED! :dance2:

You lost me at Cincinnati is a bigger program than UT. ..............

I know that if I am funneling Millions fo dollars as a booster, I want the best of the best not just someone who has Tennessee connections. That person may be Blackburn, but it might not be as well.

The booster aren't going to throw money at something they believe is a waste and not get the value for the dollar. They want the best, simple as that!!!
