Utah State opens as early Vegas favorite @Tennessee

All that is great except that the numbers do not bear you out.
If you went back and put in the caveat of the number of returning players... I am willing to bet that it would change that. I don't expect you to go to that kind of effort but rather just to acknowledge that it is a major, major factor. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you like to go into Neyland with a less talented team with 7 new starters on each side of the ball?

Scores don't matter beyond getting to a win/loss unless you are gambling.
Scores DO matter as a measure of competitiveness AND as they relate to perceptions about coaches and the quality of a program. A blowout loss counts the same on your record... but not the same in perception which IS very, very important. It may never be as important as when you are trying to re-build.

I implore you to stop adding a layer of difficulty to Jones. Not only do you want him to use talent to win or lose the games he should (reasonable), but you're asking him to win or lose by scores that you approve of or you'll feel justified in continuing your negativity. That's lunacy.

I am doing none of that. If he is a superior coach with superior talent then he should not struggle to beat clearly less talented teams. I am "hopeful" that Jones is a winning coach. But until he proves it... I will remain a skeptic based on his being completely non-competitive 4 times last year plus two other bad losses and one "bad win".

I'm not going to blindly give him trust or just assume he's great because he happens to hold the title of Head Football Coach at UT. I want to see consistent, elite coaching. We saw two really good coaching efforts last fall. Just two. That simply isn't good enough to bring success to UT.

sjt18 cares too much about being right.:(

LOL... but those who argue with me ad nauseum don't?

But actually you are correct. I am also one of the rare posters here who cares so much about being right that I will admit when I am wrong and change my position.

When someone proves that the coaches did a good job in '13 and got the most out of that roster in spite of the tangible facts then I will gladly change my mind. I am a hopeful person by nature and find it VERY unpleasant to be faced with the performance of the team and coaches in '13.

Wake up. You're an SEC doormat. In the last three seasons, you've won four conference games. Two of those were Kentucky and one was Vanderbilt.
And you are UK's whipping boy if you were in the SEC. UT is at an historic low ebb... USU has found more relevance than they have ever had... but it will be fleeting.

Rumor has it the SEC is going to trade you to Conference USA for Rice and a case of beer.

See you in the fall.

Honestly, you're a loser. That's why you're here running your mouth. You have nothing to do and have no friends. I wouldn't want to talk to you either after meeting you.

Didn't read all the posts, may have been answered already, but....

Isn't home field typically worth 7 points in a pretty close matchup? Especially when traveling across the country?
If that's the case, then this guy thinks Utah State would beat us by at least 9 points at a neutral field, and 16 in Utah?

You can tell I'm not a gambler or I would already know how this works....appreciate the information on this.

Think homefield typically means 3 pts to Vegas, not 7.

it is 3.5 at each step. so it'd be 5.5 neutral and 9 in utah.

Actually, I have a full, productive and satisfying life, and lots of friends.

Generally, I'm more restrained. Did you look at the post to which mine was a response? It was considerably more offensive than mine.

I understand the whole P5 vs G5 conference thing. I understand that the SEC has been the strongest of the strong for years. BUT, there is significant overlap between the bottom of the P5 and the top of the G5. Tennessee is a program with a great tradition, but be honest here, you haven't been much to write home about for at least the last three years.

Which reminds me, maybe you can help me with a technical problem. I've set my DVR to record "Biggest Loser", but I keep getting reruns of the 2013 Tennessee football season.

Go Vols! Go AGGIES!

Take your shots while you can. Its always fun to kick the big dog while they're down. im sure peopl Said the same about bama before saban. Funny thing is the people on yalls board are excited about being on national tv against the vols. Thats everyweek for us. Even if utah st beats the vols , it will not change the fact that yall really aren't even in the same league as Tennessee my friend.

Ok buddy, we know you're a troll, you're beginning to be a prick. Run on back to your usufans.com site now.

All I ask is that you post after the game. Thanks for the warning....

1st Game of the season for us with a lot of momentum and a lot to prove. Add Motivation and motivated. Several Seniors on this team with a lot to prove. Time will tell but the Incoming recruits to include JUCOs with something to prove and very mission driven.

If the Fans show up which they will, most of the players will not be able to think because of the noise. Second, it will take about one half to 3/4 of the game to adjust to the environment and atmosphere.

Talk this crap at the end of the game not in Feb 6 months before kick off. It's a tall order for an OOC opponent to come into Neyland and win on the first visit and the first game of the season. Your team is no cupcake and we have a coach that knows that and will ensure that the players do.

Yap all you want to because reality will set in about an hour after the game when this low tier SEC team whips ya'll butt. Enjoy it.

He won't. Like most big talking cowards, he will drift away back to that 5 person chat room he came from.

Now why would the SEC trade the 2nd most relevant team in its history when they could get rid of a team like A&M that relied on 1 good player the last 2 years. We will be fine. Can't wait to get back to where UT traditionally belongs. Then fans of 2nd rate programs like A&M can shut their pieholes

Just curious. Why are you posting about Texas A&M?

Movie poop shoot. Com..... Yeahhh!!

I just went on USU site. This is the second time I've ever gone over another team's site. They keep talking about Oregon did to us. They must have lost their minds. USU is a good team or was last year but they would have gotten beat as bad or worse as we did. We will win..I just don't know by how much.

Maybe Oregon is going to loan them their roster, coach, facilities, etc.

They sound like those losers on the Hilltopperhaven message board last season.

I was just browsing their site to get a feel for what they thought of the game and stumbled across this gem. Seems like they are trying to get fans to come over to our site . USUFans.com • View topic - Fun with Vols

It has begun! and remember...Don't feed the trolls.
SIAP but found this on their site.

Neyland is the most difficult place to play of all the ones we have played. There are over 100 k fans. This will be a great early test for the Ags.

Except the team we play in Neyland is the worst team of all the ones we've played. And we play the team, not the 100k fans.

We need to make sure that once they leave K-Town, they feel differently about playing the 100K.

One guy posted this...and Damn! This is sad, but true:

That said, this is not UT of 10 or 15 years ago.

1. Very few guys on the roster have ever experienced a winning college football season.
2. Very few guys on the roster have ever even been to a bowl game.
3. Even fewer, if any, have ever won a bowl game.
4. They have won a grand total of 4 SEC contests in the past 3 seasons. FOUR, including Kentucky twice!
5. Their Wins over the past 3 seasons are not exactly sparkly. (Austin Peay, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, South Carolina (good win), Kentucky, NC State, Georgia State, Akron, Troy, Kentucky, Montana, Cincinatti, Buffalo, Middle Tennessee St., Vandy.

Do we have a player on our roster that has played in a bowl game?
