Utah State opens as early Vegas favorite @Tennessee

I would give Vegas about as much consideration as I give VN prognosticators as to how good UT will or will not be 6 months from now.:zeitung_lesen::)

SAB came to town. Played well enough to win. Dissed Tiny to his face. Gave us all we could handle and then some. Until we rise above Sunbelt team performances, we will continue to see the Tennessee name tarnished this way.

losing the season opener, would suck, and really put a damper on the momentum the program is seeing from a great recruiting class

This.

People comparing a season opener loss to a late season loss to UK or Vandy are mistaken. Season openers offer hope. By the time those UK and Vandy games rolled around UT was already a 6 loss team.

The line will just move based on betting..but I hope some people temper their expectations about our W-L record and understand the freshman probably will not do better than the seniors we lost.

Besides the O-Line my tempered expectations tell me Josh Malone is better than our #2 receiver last year, whoever that was. AJ stayed home, may be on probation though. Another year for the players to be in the same system with the same coaches. O yeah, last year our back up QB's were all Freshman except for one Sophmore. We have more depth now when we get winded on D-fence. I'm sure I have orange shades on but still. 8-4 win bowl by 21 points:crazy:

They have to travel across the country.
Worley will be back.
Pig and North are only getting better.
Sutton is only getting better.
Offense added Helms, Hurd, Malone, Pearson, and Scott.
Defense added Barnett, Bates, the Berrys, Gaulden, Kelly, McDowell, and Weatherd.
And all returning players will be in year 2 of CBJ's system.

I'll take Big Orange.

This is just more incentive for this team.....more incentive for fans to support.....good team coming in capable of winning but it will be a great game to set the tone fore the rest of the season....with other coaches this team would have been of the radar. Thank Vegas for keeping eyes open....

In essence they are stating USU is 5 pts better than us on neutral site. Opening season game with all the hype from spring game recruiting class and press, Neyland worth at least 9 pts for this game.

Actually, a Utah St victory is more likely than a UT win. Statistically speaking anyway. Phil Steele analyzed 20,882 every college football games going back to 1997. Games involving spreads of 3 points or less --- the favored team wins 52.22% of the time.

True but these odds and spread stats are based on closing line bets and not opening bet lines 6 months out. Tennessee will be favored by a 7+ by game time

Because he's trolling.

Gotta be because I see us better at WR, RB, DB, TE, QB, LB, DB, DE. Our overall DL couldn't be worse than last year, and there can't be a whole lotta drop off from an overrated OL that just didn't play nearly as well as everyone hoped for. Our team speed has been significantly upgraded and young future stars like North, Sutton, Vereen and Reeves-Maybin will all be bigger, stronger, faster, and experienced/better. I'll stop there. How in the world will we be worse? Don't see it.

Utah St. is in conference who gives a F@#$. If they come here and beat a mid level SEC team (hate to say it but we are as of today) at home in front of nine of there fans then we should drop to conference who gives a S#%@. I dont care how good you think they were last year.

Wake up. You're an SEC doormat. In the last three seasons, you've won four conference games. Two of those were Kentucky and one was Vanderbilt.

Rumor has it the SEC is going to trade you to Conference USA for Rice and a case of beer.

See you in the fall.

Go Vols! Go AGGIES!

Damn. Doormat? Looks like cooterbob hit a nerve.

Nah. From the looks of it, cooterbob couldn't hit the ocean with a rock from ten feet. I'm just saying, a "mid level" team should finish about in the, um, middle. But tell me why I'm wrong.

So with that in mind, how much worse will it feel when tennessee wins by 10+?

How much of a favorite was NCST two years ago?

Beautiful motivation and it gives us a mission and a sense of urgency to achieve maximum gains in S&C and to make the most of Spring & Fall training...and everything in between.

Utah State is a great team and they are coached well and have an experience advantage on us. But we have better athletes, our coaches are at least as good and we have Neyland. The 14EEs will be insurance.

We take it by 3-7 points, more if it wasn't our first game with so many new starters.

My surprise prediction is that by mid-season, our OL will be as good or better than last years. I don't think it will be a surprise at all that by mid-season, the Dline will be much better than last year.

The OLinemen, except Blair and new recruits will have another year of experience in the read option system which is a lot different than the previous blocking scheme.

The players, especially Kerbyson, Jackson, Wiesman and Crowder will have about two years with real S&C as opposed to pencil whipping workouts.

And Blair has all the tools to blossom into a great OT.

That's not an explanation of why you aren't an SEC doormat. In fact, it sounds like an admission that you are.

If we lose by 10+ it will be a bit of a surprise. In the last five seasons, no BCS team has beaten us by more than a touchdown, including defending national champion Auburn three years ago, and Rose Bowl bound Wisconsin two years ago. The 2014 team will probably be the best we've put on the field in 50 years. Right now, lots of people who have no dog in the fight, and who make a living thinking about college football, are expressing the opinion that the 2014 Aggies will be better than the 2014 Vols. We'll see in about six months.

Go Vols! Go AGGIES!
